The HDD setup hit the spot for my needs. It took a little bit to get it set up for a mirror configuration vs a stripe, but now I'm confident it is running well and I have faith, from experience, in WD reliability.

The best practice is to run diagnostics with WD Drive Utilities when a drive does not perform as expected or is behaving abnormally. We recommend avoiding USB hubs for external hard drives and therefore connect the drive directly to a USB 3.0 port on the computer. Please refer to the WD support page to know more.

If the test is inconclusive and the drive is under warranty, you can replace the drive by creating RMA with Western Digital. To know the steps to create an RMA, you can refer to the link mentioned below.
