Great System : Swann 8 Channel 1080p Full HD DVR Security System

After many, many hours of research, I decided to go with Swann for a security camera system for my rural home. Although, my research showed that the Swann systems are reasonably priced and had good reviews on various websites, what finally swayed me from a competing system was the informative website and most importantly, the well written and detailed downloadable color 79 page manual on the system I was considering. It was important for me to know, before purchase, what was involved in installing and using the system. As others have noted, the system was easy to install, the most difficult part being getting the cables into the house. Months ago, I installed a wireless camera system for some friends in Virginia, but I wanted a wired system that was not dependent on WiFi or the Internet should a widespread power outage occur. I can easily run this system with a deep discharge 12v battery and inverter, charged by my single 100w solar panel. The 1080p cameras are great and present a great picture on my large screen TV which I use as a monitor. I also have a dedicated monitor which I keep as a backup. The app works great on my iPhone 8-Plus and I get push notifications and emails whenever an "event" occurs. I record 24/7 and keep the motion and PIR off except when I leave my house as I also have separate motion alarms and perimeter alarms in my house. This system is very user friendly but I highly recommend spending the money for extra printer ink cartridges and download and print the user manual. You will need it. I wish that the manual was included, but I guess it would be too expensive. I have an 8 channel system with only 4 cameras, but I really want 4 additional cameras. I will wait for a sale on individual cameras or just buy another system entirely and keep the 2nd DVR in my Faraday can as a backup.

Ok system

I bought this about a month ago. The reason being that my old DVR which is from swann went out after 2 and a half years. This system seems ok for know but this system only records when it detects movement that's probably alright although it doesn't detect everything. That's probably alright since that way the system has more recording space. My old system recorded everything which I miss. Also this system like my old one goes blank on the screens. I have to reset it which is a big downturn
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It is not fully installed at the exact spots we will place all the cameras but sure thing it works perfectly (see the picture). It looks like a great quality product that we can strongly recommend. The app works great too.

Must have security system

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband has been wanting a new security system for our home for some times. We are really please with this system. Installation and setup was unbelievably easy. The hardest part will be your choice of camera placement.
 While at the moment we are just using the 4 cameras the system came with, we plan to purchase 4 more to expand to the full 8 this system is capable of running. The picture quality day and night is just phenomenal. This images are so crisp and clear. My husband is a huge fan of the True Detect feature as well. This system does not disappoint. 
A perfect purchase for your own peace of mind, this would also make an amazing house warming gift! The gift of security is one you can't beat. A true must have in any home.
I would recommend this to a friend!

No Pan. Quality poor.

Cameras can only be mounted horizontally, on a ceiling for example.
Mounting vertically on an outside wall next to a front door for example, the cameras only tilt up and down, not pan left and right so cannot be pointed towards the front door.
Even though the instructions say they can, there is no facility for them to physically pan.
They can be twisted, but this results in the lens twisting diagonally and the video feed reflects this and results in having to review footage with your head to one side!
Also the video quality is poor.
At full resolution, not even the number plate on the driveway could be read clearly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear about the issues you experienced when installing our Swann 8 Channel 1080P DVR Kit. This item will have 3 different pivot points that will allow for the camera to be adjusted to best fit your security needs.

1. Loosen the screw (use a Phillips head screwdriver) to adjust the camera’s
orientation. This enables you to rotate the camera so no matter what
direction it is facing, your images will be the right way up. Tighten the screw
to secure in place.

2. Loosen the screw to tilt the camera up and down. Tighten the screw to
secure in place.

3. To pan the camera left and right, loosen the locking ring counter-clockwise
and position accordingly. Tighten clockwise to secure in place.

If your subjects are at a distance, you may want to consider a higher resolution system which will allow for a more clear image when digitally zooming in.

Biggest piece of rubbish ever!!!

I had the first unit fail after 2 weeks. Now I have had the replacement unit fail after 3 months. Will never touch a Swann product again.
