The best laser I've ever had. The scanning capability and the software that goes with are exemplary. I have it on my network and fax documents from any station.

Love this dual tray printer

I love this printer. I am a notary and print legal and letter sized pages that the printer needs to recognize. I had an issue in the set up process but called Brother and the tech support person was awesome. She set it up to pull the correct pages by paper source. This has made my life so much easier. I no longer have to manually select pages to print by paper size.

I have used higher priced copiers and will never do so again. I decided to try Brother and am sold. I use Brother labelers, printers, and copier in my small business and will definitely continue to do so!

Impressive "wake up" time

I am amazed at how fast the machine wakes from power saving mode and is ready to work. It is literally a second or two!
The touch screen is a bit awkward but functional.
Importing contact information from a csv file was complicated. The machine itself cannot accept a csv file. However the pc-fax application can import a csv file and then save it in a format that the machine accepts. One extra step and done right? Nope. Gotta import the new file you created with the pc-fax software and then go back and manually enter your 32 one-touch quick dials.
This said, the frustration of this was worth the benefits of what this machine does. I only hope that by the time this one wears out Brother will have software that can import a multitude of file types of contact information.

Reliable and Economical for a Small Office

I am a solo attorney and use this as the sole printer/scanner/copier for myself and my paralegal in my office. I wasn't very happy with the faxing function of this while hooked to my VOIP system, so I switched to efax. Nonetheless, the consumables are inexpensive (generics largely available if you prefer) and the machine rarely misfeeds or jams. Printer and scanner are also very fast.
I have a few small nitpicks about the machine that could really make this the perfect unit for me. First, after it runs out of letter paper in the first tray, it automatically defaults to the legal sized paper in the second tray. Also, the ADF cannot automatically detect legal sized paper so in order to scan legal sized paper, you have to go through the computer software to adjust the paper size and scan through there. As a result, you cannot copy legal sized paper from the machine either - again, you need to handle this through the computer. Last, the controls on the machine's touchscreen are slow and laggy and can be frustrating when you are in a rush.
All in all, I'm very happy with the machine and would probably replace it with the same unit if this one were to fail, but I can't help but think how easily it could be made better.

Disappointed

35,000 prints over 1 1/2 year, i.e. about what its supposed to be able to print per month, and its constantly squeaking. Motors, fuser, toner, drum replacements haven't fixed. If you buy, be sure to get an extended warranty and cross your fingers

These cheaper copiers are too fragile.

Bought this copier in June and now it gets too hot and wrinkles paper after just a few copies and it tells me the memory is full. Phone help is not helpful. They tell me it needs to be looked at before it can be helped. Which makes no sense to me. I thought this machine could be looked over at my office but was told it needed to be looked at instead before anything could be done. ???

You need a professional to set up scan to email feature. The printer status shows offline sometimes and my other printers never did that so I changed the sleep setting to 90 min which is the max and that problem may of gone away. Besides that this printer is great for a 15-20 person office. I cna print from my cell phone which is cool
