This is our 3rd printer. Previous was the MFC8910DW. They had numerous problems and we finally replaced with a different model.
The 8950DW so far is good. It is noisy when printing, and very slow to print faxes coming through. This makes it difficult to print anything needing because we have to wait while the fax completes.

Excellent Product

I have previously owned two other Brother MFC printers over the years. The MFC-895DWT is the best of all of them tying in various options for connectivity and duplexing capabilities both on printing and scanning.
I have always used two paper trays over the years one for letter and the other for legal size paper. Usually I purchased the second tray, but this one comes with a second try.
It is an expensive top of the line printer, but you get what you pay for.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good machine!

Overall great printer and scanner. A bit slow on the scanner side but does the job we need it too. We print/scan roughly 3500 pages of material per week and we are happy with our Brother MFC-8950DW. In addition, we use the super high yield toner cartridges and they are absolutely worth the money!
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have my MFC-8950DW for just short of a month at this point. I wanted to print, copy and scan a large amount of documents in a variety of configurations before I wrote this review. Aside from the fact that it is a bit loud at start up the machine is just incredible. Set up is a breeze.
I cannot speak as to whether it can handle a mix of both letter and legal sized documents at the same time as I do not have a second paper tray and don’t need one. I do not use it as a fax either.
Everything I have tossed at it so far is handled with speed, clarity and top notch reliability. I don’t understand why some reviewers complain the function that reduces the size of multiple page documents and fits them into one page does not work. It works perfectly in both single and two sided mode and will save lots of paper. Perhaps those people do not understand the options on the printer properties page. The two sided printing, copying and scanning functions work as they should. However, when scanning to PDF the default size produces very large files and with a few simple adjustments they can be reduced down to where you want them.
In my opinion, after looking at many other brands and models this is the best black and white laser multifunction machine on the market at this time.

Honeymoon is over

This machine worked great for awhile but the honeymoon is definitely over. Increasingly I get a message that it is "unable to print". I was connecting wirelessly so I thought perhaps that is the issue (interference??). I just connected with USB cable and nothing has improved. Paper jams quite often; constantly have to shut-off and turn-on. Scanning is slow, especially duplex. Just bought a stand-alone scanner to speed up my workflow and that works great. Duplex printing is also quite slow. Sorry I bought this machine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Impressive and greatly improved

Faster, better, smaller than before. This thing is blazing fast. The single-pass duplex scanner/copier is the only one in its class. The new touch screen control panel is simple and so much easier to use. The smaller footprint is more efficient. The higher capacity paper tray takes an entire ream of paper. By far, the best all-in-one out there.

This top-tier Brother mono MFC-9850DWT replaced a worn-out MFC 8640DN: this one's a step up with its improved duplex copier and improved print quality. I have three current Brother printers at home to compare against our office that has Canon and HP printers and copiers. I chose Brother for my personal home usage because of its optimum quality and value - that says it all...
I would recommend this to a friend!
