I used to be a big fan of brother printers using them over many years but the HL-5470DW is the worst printers I have owned. I purchased two of them at the same time and both failed a week apart shortly after the warranty expired. The first one had a portion of the fuser film separate and Brother did honor the warranty on it but it took two weeks to get it fixed. The second one made a loud clunk sound and died. I did locate the problem to the special on board fuse on the power supply had blown and had to improvise on replacing it as they are not readily available. I don't think I will buy any more replacement brother printers again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Fast, dependable, & economical

The Brother HL-5470DW is fast, dependable, and economical. I wish it also had a port to print from a jump drive. The quality is excellent. I do a lot of music printing; this printer makes it affordable. The wireless feature is so convenient.

Awesome Printer

This laser printer was easy to setup right out of the box. Added to my wireless network with ease. Accessible for all network users to print. The duplex printing feature is great. Thought I would have to turn the pages over and reload to print on the back side. This printer does it for me. Select print, then check the duplex box and it ready to print on both sides. Great print quality.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I just brought and installed. It easy to install WIFI and Fast and quick print copy. I am since 35 Year using Brother product. I love brother Products

HL5470DW Very Disappointing Experience

Replacing an older Brother HL5250DN that I was always very happy with. Also have MFC-J6710 and MFC-6490 and multiple Brother inkjets for kids at college. I had always had good service but the HL5470DW was not good out of the box. It started with random bands of black spots (like odd sprinkles of toner) on top sheet only of multipage printout. I figured it was new and would clean up ok since if I reprinted the second print was clean. But after a couple of weeks it was still doing same and getting worse. Now relatively distinct horizontal bands about 3/8 inch wide on multiple pages. Went to Brother Support Chat and it was horrible experience. Tech Support sent Tech Note on this - but none of it was applicable to my printer - sketches did not match and instructions did not make sense - there was no white gear on end to turn etc - then he wanted me to disassemble and go buy Alcohol to clean Drum - said he could not do anything on warranty until I completed Troubleshooting on a 2 week old printer. Thank goodness for Amazon - they took back and refunded without any issues. Now have a HP for first time in 10 years and very happy with it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

One Excellent Printer

The Brother HL-5470DW is an amazing printer. Installation was easy, and when I needed help with something, the Brother tech support was very helpful on the phone.
It wakes up from sleep mode very quickly and prints fast, and the duplex printing feature works great and saves paper. If you need a B&W printer, I highly recommend it.
For several years now, I only buy Brother printers (I have another all-in-one color Brother machine).

Real workhorse

Extremely reliable and dependable. Easy to set-up for both wired and wireless printing. My only reservation is that the printer is a bit noisy when printing.

Fast and Economical

This is a great printer at this price point.
I read reviews that claim that the HL-5470DW is economical, and the price checks I did for toner cartridges showed that to be the case.
I got what I wanted:
Fast, Economical, Monochrome printing.
As a bonus it was easy to set up for wireless operation and the two-sided printing appears to be speedy compared to other printers I have used.
