Sad Instructions, Bad OSX 10.9 driver, good iPhone

As an Electrical Engineer for 30 years, you would think it would be quick and easy to setup this network ready printer. Not the case. Setup instructions were disjointed, incomplete and difficult to find.
I currently have one other Brother printer (hard wired) to my network and one HP color inkjet with scanning features.
Once I figured out on my own how to wirelessly connect the printer to my network, our iPads and iPhones made easy connections without adding any drivers or other software apps. AirPrint worked but there were no readily available options to auto-duplex. Although I am currently searching for a users manual on the web (only a product safety guide and ridiculous quick setup guide came with the product).
I am currently searching for a way to set up auto duplexing. Since no documentation is readily available, I am shuddering to think about using a ridiculous one-line lcd screen mounted on the computer to try and find the auto-duplex setting, if available.
The other major problem is that for my new iMac with OSX 10.9.2, the driver was not on the CD supplied with the product. Instructions were very confusing and vague about where to get the proper driver. Since I already had another Brother printer, I went to the Brother Solutions website and searched for the proper driver for my Computer's Operating System version. At this point I found very limited options for the printer; in fact, there is no auto duplex option available. This would be very handy for software that does not allow selection of 2-sided printing.
This is my 3rd Brother printer. The 2nd printer I had has been reliable; but the first one had to be replaced and would not print after one toner cartridge. I wanted to try Brother again based on other reasonable reviews for reliability and MAC compatibility. .... My thoughts on MAC compatibility are incomplete at this point since the iPhones and iPads print to it nicely, with the exception of having readily available options to duplex. The MAC problem may be due to poor wireless driver options from Brother. Maybe Brother will update the driver for 10.9.2 in the future (sooner is better).
Overall: The concept is good. Print quality is fine if you are looking for a brute printer with toner at a reasonable price. iPhone and iPad compatibility is acceptable. But if you need a driver for OSX 10.9.2 with good control options, forget it for the present.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very, very fast !

It's been a long while since I have upgraded my office printer, so I amazed at how fast my new Brother print could do it's job. I do go through a lot of paper during the first four months of the year since I own a tax prep business and I really wish that the machine had a larger paper capacity. I knew that there was a draw back there when I bought it, so I can live with that. The only issue that I do have is when it prints I may have 50 pages laying on the top of the printer or just a few, but it is always a pain to pick up the stack without bending the corner. They are laying on a flat surface.

Pretty Basic

Bought HL-5470DW for all Mac home office use. More pricey than personal models w/ seemingly no benefits other than more sturdy features. Good print quality, but duplex printing requires continuous re-setting. Automatic "deep sleep" setting is very annoying. Deep sleep = auto shut off, and requires that you manually turn the printer off and then on again, defeating the purpose of an auto-on feature altogether. You can adjust amount of time before printer goes from sleep mode to deep-sleep, but you cannot disable deep sleep function.

Great Laser Printer

I love the duplexing, and it is easy to do. Haven't tried the networking. I also have a HL 5240 for years and loved it, but I could never do the duplex feature of copies on both sides of the paper.

We have only had the printer running for about a week so it is hard to tell how well it will hold up, we heard that it was a work horse. Setting up the wireless network was a pain, the instructions leave a lot to be desired, should not assume everyone is a computer geek and knows it all. We fineally got it up and running on 2 of the computers. I like the speed of printing and how clear it is. The price was very good, so far very happy.

I PREVIOUSLY HAD AN HP 1320N PRINTER FOR YEARS FOR MY BLACK/WHITE LASER NEEDS BUT THOUGHT I SHOULD BUY A NEW PRINTER SINCE IT WAS GETTING SO OLD. I JUST REALIZED AFTER DEALING WITH ISSUE AFTER ISSUE WITH THIS BROTHER PRINTER, THAT I AM NOW OFFICIALLY 6 DAYS PAST MY 1 YEAR WARRANTY - NOT ONLY HAVE I PUT IN A NEW DRUM AND TRIED COUNTLESS OTHER ADJUSTMENTS TO MY PRINT MODE, THE PRINTING LOOKS TERRIBLE AND IT ALSO JAMS CONTINUOUSLY. NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS PRINTER!! HEY, ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, I KEPT MY OLD HP AND AM NOW HOOKING IT BACK UP UNTIL I CAN GET ANOTHER WIFI PRINTER. DON'T GET THIS ONE - I AM SORELY DISAPPOINTED - WOW!!! I WON'T EVER BUY ANOTHER BROTHER PRODUCT!!
