This is our second 8710 printer but it's also the last - we've only had it a few months, using Brother cartridges only & it's already showing lines down one side of the page &/or speckles on each page.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased the 8710DW because I need a laser printer that will print both legal and letter size documents at the same time. When I would print just legal, it worked great, when I printed just letter it worked great, but when e-doc were sent to me that contained both legal and letter sized documents, and when the sizes swicthed from one to the other the printer would jam. I thought it might be a defective machine so we tried another one with the same results. If it had not been for this one critical problem, I would have been very happy with it as the scanner and fax were great.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good product but needs work

Great machine for the price if you have a PC. The manual needs a good deal of work to be understandable - very confusing. IT NEEDS A LOT OF REWRITE! The directions always talked about things that don't apply to Mac. With any problem it says to re-install the MFL-Pro Suite. Nowhere does it say this is just for Windows. Also, the literature says one can scan to your computer's email. On a Mac, if you have Parallels and Windows it will open Windows to send the email and I don't have an email program in Windows that I use. Tech support's solution on how to correct this problem is to remove Parallels and Windows to have it go to my Mac's OS email. Brothers say they have no plans on correcting this problem. I think Brothers should alert Mac users about this problem before purchase. The machine has a lot of good features and hope Brothers gets things worked out to interface better with a Mac in the future.

happy with this printer

works well, prints fast. I like the duplex printing. The first one I got was defective and after multiple calls to customer service, they told me to send it back to them and they sent me a replacement. The new one works well. My experience with customer service was good.

LOVE that I can turn the beeping off!! Also, you can run in quiet mode!! Last printer was also a brother MFC-8860DN..loved that til it was time for a new one.

Bought one of these over a year ago, and it started having major jamming problems right after the warranty ran out. The cost to repair was more than 1/2 of getting a new one. I have always used Brother Products, and have always found them to be very reliable. This model fits my needs perfectly, when the 1st one worked it was great. So... I bought another one. I'm hoping the first one failing so early was just a fluke.
I would recommend this to a friend!
