Quick, but mediocre functions

I use this printer in my office for printing, scanning and copying. Setting everything up was really easy and straightforward. The scanning is great. Really quick and option to instantly e-mail. I am disappointed that there is no ability to do double-sided copies (should have checked this before I bought it) The copy quality is only OK, I feel like it's too dark which makes it look smudged. I've tried adjusting the functions with not much success. There is already a dark line going through all of my scans and I've only had it a couple months. Keep trying to clean the corona wire but it doesn't seem to help. Also, the machine forces you to change the toner before the copies even have a slight appearance of fading. Maybe that's a highly specialized function these days, but it seems like a ripoff and way to force you to buy toner.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Poor customer service and machine

I purchased this printer last year and it worked great for awhile. In less then a years time it started acting funny. I had it set to do duplex printing and after a few months the machine started making grinding noises and crinkling our paper. I went online to the Brother website and looked at the trouble shooting but nothing was listed for this problem so I emailed customer service. No one responded to my email. I called where I purchased my printer and they do not service printers. Now my machine only prints half a page because it looks like a piece broke off inside, I guess that is what the grinding noise was!!! Would have been nice if someone from Brother would have contacted me when I originally emailed them. I will never purchase a Brother printer again and I have told other people not to purchase Brother printers.

Decent Product, Awful Service, Not For Mac Users

This is our second Brothers MFC. Owned the first for about seven years before it failed. Not bad. Among the reasons we purchased a new Brothers MFC was because it supported Apple AirPrint. We were therefore stunned to learn that its scan to PC and fax to/from PC did not support our Mac. We contacted Brother support using the form on the Brother website. All details were provided. (We know how to do this. We have owned Macs since there were Macs. Our home system includes seven Apple products, two Epson printers, an Epson scanner, a Nikon scanner, four LaCie backup drives, and our soon-to-be returned Brother MFC.) What we got back was an email asking for details, which as noted were already provided. We responded to that email and in return got an email that suggested we call for service. This shows that unlike companies like Apple and Epson, both of which provide superb service, Brother has lost its way.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Brother does not stand behind its products.

DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE! Brother customer service is the worst. I purchased this machine on August 11th 2014 and have had nothing but trouble with it. It worked for a couple of months then the print quality went south. I have purchased 2 drum units during this time and paid more than I paid for the unit. Customer service took me through the same steps as the manual and basically told me that was all they could do. I own 4 other brother printers so this one is clearly a lemon, but they will not stand behind their products so buyer beware if you get a lemon.

The MFC-8710DW printer is very fast. It does a great job printing and the fax, scan and copy features are fast and easy to work with. I save a lot of paper with the duplex printing feature. I use a wireless network and the set up for this machine was very easy. I would recommend this printer to anyone who needs a fast and versatile machine.
I would recommend this to a friend!
