Effective but only for cautious operators

It works well to trim down medium length hair with relative closeness with one pass. I like the built in trimmer for this reason. But if hair is thick, you have to use another trimmer first as to avoid getting it bogged down and pulling hairs. I like the ergonomic shape and the attachment to reach my back. The waterproofness is a good touch, too. The blade will sometimes pop out if you catch your skin just right, but not nearly as bad as my old Bodygroom--the head wouldn't even stay in place on it. Also, you have to be VERY careful around sensitive areas or you'll end up with nicks and blood! I do recommend this product, but only if you're very cautious on those delicate areas. For regular arms, back, chest, etc. it works pretty well.
Pros: long runtime on a charge, waterproof, relatively effective, fast charge time
Cons: relatively effective, blade sometimes pops off, won't work on thicker hair, will draw blood!
I use this to keep my all of my upper torso hair below my neck trimmed short and uniform. Same for legs. Also use this to keep my entire mid region shaved smooth and down to skin with no stubble. This is to include entire genital region including all manly appendages. No issues there what so ever, just need to keep skin reasonably tight while shaving. Does not catch skin nor is it irritating. Does a nice job, both my wife and I enjoy the smooth look and feel.
Would buy again. I run battery to full depletion each time and only hook up charger to depleted shaver. Excellent battery life so far. I use this unit dry only. That works for me.
Pros: like double ended design
Cons: none yet
I would recommend this to a friend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the second Norelco BG2040 Body Groomer that I purchased. The first one lasted three years. The one major complaint I have is that they have designed this so you cannot easily replace the rechargeable battery! Planned obsolescence!
To Philips Norelco - PLEASE redesign the BG2040 so that you can sell rechargable batteries, instead of the entire trimmer. The trimmer itself is good after a few years, but it won't hold a charge! Show some class and let the consumer replace the re-chargable battery!!!
Love this product so much. Everyone in my house uses it. The battery life diminished quickly on one of them due to my wife's incorrect charging habits. The other one was beaten up to much. This time around I hope to make it last. Love the shaving features and the closeness. Sleek new design makes me want to buy several more as Christmas gifts next year. Being a Philips employee in the healthcare sector makes me very proud to see and feel senses and simplicity at work. :)). Love itlove it love it.

Great design with one major flaw.

The design works well except for one drawback...if ever there was a need for a shaver/trimmer to have a pivoting head, this is it. When moving this over the contours of your body, and particularly when reaching around to do your back, it's impossible to keep the head in its optimal position. It would work much better if the head could pivot.
Another reviewer said it tugs and pulls. It does, but you need to move more slowly. Moving slowly will give you better results anyway.
Pros: innovative design, philips quality, good ergonomics, versatility
Cons: desperately needs pivoting head, longer combs should be supplied for other areas, stand up charging unit is bulky and impractical

Not bad

Overall not bad, no problems with the foil razor, close shave, pretty quick. Charges fast, easy to put in and out of charging stand. The adjustable comb breaks easily and costly to replace relative to the price of the entire unit. I've had two break on me. Other than that, product as described.
Cons: adjustable comb breaks easily
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It's suppose to be one piece, not two

Poor battery life, entire product died

After fully charging, this groomer never lasted more than ~7 minutes, despite the description claiming that it lasts 50 minutes. After about 6 months of use, at one use every two weeks, the trimmer died. While the shaver side still words, the trimmer does not turn on anymore.
Cons: poor battery, trimmer does not turn on anymore
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great trimmer. About 4/5 on all.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this because I needed to replace two trimmers. It helps with the beard trim \ neck, then the body.
So far I have used it a few times and love it. Battery does well.
It is not the strongest \ best "close" trimmer for the neck, but it does a pretty good job and does not scrape the skin.
The foil is still a little "dangerous" but not bad. Better than anything else.
Pros: coupon on amazon, battery charger stand is great
