Good Smoker after modifications

The smoker is well built and sturdy, with the exception of the smoke chamber door latch that popped off the first time I used it. The solid charcoal pan is also a problem, as it doesn't allow for a good air flow to achieve a good burning coal fire to smoke wood chips with. I found a square porcelain coated steel "wok" that fit the guide rails perfectly to use as a charcoal pan, and that allowed for a much better fire and cooking temperature to be achieved and better smoke production. The "wok" was for grilling seafood and vegetables, so it was made full of holes for plenty of heat (air) flow, which is just what this smoker needed. One thing that you will need to do if you keep it outside, is to get a cover for it, as it will rust out rather quickly if you leave it to the weather uncovered. Other than those issues, this smoker will let you make some terrific food, we have had some fantastic smoked turkeys, ribs, prime rib roasts, chickens, meatloafs, steaks, corn, pork tenderloins, you name it and I've probably smoked it in this smoker. I like to use cider in the water pan along with some other spices and seasonings depending on what I'm smoking. This opens an avenue of experimentation for you if you like to try different things with food.

Unsure of heating ability

So far, I've not been able to get the temperature above 200degrees. So very hard to get the smoker seasoned as the directions specify. Also unsure if the charcoal pan is big enough to really maintain a heat level long enough to cook anything. Been trying to read reviews and learn of other peoples concerns...
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Terrible

My fiancé bought me this as birthday gift. First off it came dented and one rack broken. All sticky on edges.
We've tried all day to get up to temp and it won't go above 130 degrees no matter what we try. Smoke leaks out of the door. Not happy with this at all.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Manufactured with excellent design and materials

I have owned this grill for several years and smoked thousands of pounds of meat with it. I have smoked ribs, chickens, turkeys, boston butts, sausages, deer meat and other meats. The smoker has performed well and all meats have been cooked as desired with excellent tenderness, desired amount of doneness and flavor. It is easy to regulate the smoking temperature with the multiple air vents. Also the door works well for adding additional charcoal and/or water.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bought this 6 years ago . I finally wore it out .This is the second one I have owned .Never a problem .Always managed to maintain a 180 - 200 degree temp. Trying to find a new one but everybody is out of stock.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Perfect for a beginner!

I bought this smoker this weekend and smoked for the first time. I smoked 3 full racks of ribs, and tenderloin. The smoker held temp really well and the doors made it very easy to work with the food and the charcoal separately without losing too much heat. I would absolutely recommend this to someone looking to smoke for the first time!

Absolutely terrible at maintaining temp

This was bought as an entry level smoker, and I have had a terrible time maintaining a temp any higher than 125 on it for the 2 years I have owned it. It doesn't matter what I do I eventually have to finish off the meat in my boyfriends propane smoker (which to me is a true pity). It does not maintain a steady temp, the top door has warped and I have taken excellent care of it. I feel it was an utter waste of money and that I would not recommend to anyone that has an interest. It is such a fail that they would get turned off by the process before truly learning it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

VERY SMALL SMOKER BOX MEASURES height 31 inch dep

It’s tiny, looks like a toy. I can’t even fit full slab of ribs and had to cut in half.
The comment from the manufacturer and descriptions on measurement stated 50.75" x 21.5" x 39".
BUT SMOKER BOX ACTUALLY MEASURES height 31 inch depth 15 inch width 16 inch
