Got finished yesterday with assembling and adding the following mods suggested on the Oklahoma Joe's website (I purchased their brand products for this), this includes extra thermometer, door seal, high temp sealant, and latches (from another vendor). So I loaded the firebox with lump charcoal (I added wet hickory chips for smoke) and fired it off for the first time to check for leaking and functionality.
The first thing I noticed is that the thermometer the farthest away from the coals/firebox had condensation in it this am, after the grill got hot it also read about 125° higher than the add-on I just placed closest to the firebox! The far more troubling problem is that my doors are so warped that even with the latches/door seal smoke is leaking in several places around the door.
In my opinion I would have been better served to purchase either the one I saw at a big box store at half the price with better fit and finish but lighter steel or the similar ones with the same heavy gauge steel at double the price that do no require mods for use. I really wanted to like this grill.

Not what they used to be

I saw some of these smokers in a local store and was sick with disappointment. I bought an Oklahoma Joe in the 90s and it was thick, heavy cast iron and blows away the current models. I suspect when they were bought by Charbroil quality became secondary to cost cutting and profits.
Such a shame.

The welding on the legs don’t line up with the screws so I have one wheel straight and the other 1/4 off to where it looks like it’s ready to make a turn! After I season it I noticed the smoker box started to slope down and is about a 1/4 to a 1/2 in off from being straight and the paint immediately started to peel off as soon as the temperature got to 400 degrees
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Still in the box

Just received my grill. Upon opening the box noticed these imperfections in the surface on top. Thinking this might be the start of some corrosion? Any ideas? Just wondering if I should even bother building this thing or just send it back.

Got it for 5 years now and still the best smokers I've had. Just make sure you put it somewhere dry and clean. A covers helps out really well. Every season you clean it properly and clean/coat it with some natural oil. This will help out against rough weather conditions and rust. So overall great buy! Sadly brought it with me from the States back to the Netherlands and can't find a new one here because of no sales. Otherwise a second one would help out a lot! But that's a luxury problem.

I’ve had this grill for 6 years. Outside in the the elements year round, uncovered. Wire brush and some high temp spray paint, good to go.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very happy with this smoker! After a couple weeks of owning it and learning it I took it to a KCBS competition and placed in the top 10 only cooking on this smoker! Highly recommend also purchasing the 2nd temperature gauge separately. The "Oklahoma Joe" name plate on the smoker was broken upon arrival, and the "Oklahoma Joe" patch on the cover I bought separately was stitched on poorly and crooked. Seems to be some haphazard quality control, but otherwise I'm happy with the functionality of the products I purchased
