For a budget monitor it is very well engineered. Voicing is excellent with good midbass response. These are great monitors, especially for the price. Currently using for stereo listing.

Arrived on front porch this morning and am enjoying them 8hrs later! Absolutely AMAZING! They don't play quite as loud as my nhtc3 or polk lsim703, however the sound is just as enthralling. For the price of these refurbished speakers, nothing can touch them. Thank you JBL!

Incredible soundstage and clarity

I upgraded to these from a pair of JBL LSR305 powered monitors, and these are the first passive speakers I've ever heard that match the soundstage and imaging on those. On top of that they have superior clarity and, to my ears, slightly better bass. I'm powering them using a SMSL SA-50 and I was surprised by how loud they got, as I understood them to be fairly hard-to-drive speakers.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought these speakers at the INSANE sale price of 250 for the PAIR! For that price you can get some garbage sounding cheap entry level bookshelves. These babies are super THICK MDF wood, and have an exquisite futuristic design. I have had the good fortune of hearing the BeoLab 90 (90k dollars), Triad Custom THX setups, and multiple speaker systems costing up to 20k dollars. What is incredible is that at this price range, these speakers are some of the most musical that I have ever heard. It made me consider selling my HD 600's and seperate DAC 24/96 listening setup for favor of CD quality on these speakers. The thing that is so incredible is that these are the smallest in the line, and they sound like towers 6 ft tall! The most impressive thing is that even amidst this stellar build, beautiful design, and power, there is a massive soundstage case by these speakers. In my tiny listening room, when I listen to music and movies, it feels like there is an entire orchestra in front of me. Many manufacturers claim their speakers sound like a "live" presentation. Out of all the speakers I have heard these managed to substantiate that claim and then some. The price of these speakers could be up to 2-3k a pair for the quality they produce. Thank you JBL for continuing your legendary repertoire for excellence, and please continue to make great products like this.

Amazing clarity, killer looks!

I've had these speakers set up for about a week now, and they're just blowing me away! Coming from a Home Theater in a Box to a pair of 530s and a 520C, plus recycled subwoofer, I am very happy I went with these speakers. Initially, in my search for new home theater audio, I was hoping to buy a set of white loud speakers to match the decor, but the menacing style on display now is just too cool! I abandoned that search altogether after researching these. My wife agrees they look stunning and even commented on how much clearer and higher quality our new speakers sound. I can't wait to hear these speakers with a new receiver that I'm ordering!

I've had these speakers for approximately two weeks. I'm not at audiophile levels of expectations, but I do appreciate higher quality sound. The only downside of this speaker is that the box is larger than most would probably be comfortable with. My wife wasn't happy to see the physical dimensions and commented on it. However in the larger room that we have these do a much better job of filling in the high to mid level sound. I also understand what a lot of other reviewers are talking about when they say that these speakers produce sound as if you're listening to the performance, not a set of speakers playing the performance. It's a subtle difference but once you've got your system calibrated correctly it's certainly there.
