I bought this cable and the tranfer speeds are very slow. I also own the belkin .5m cable and it works very well. The transfer test speeds are 400 MBps but this 2m cable is only transferring at 40MPbs with the same computer and same ssd. I would not

Hi Cable,

We would like to take a closer look at your networking environment since the Thunderbolt 3 Cable supports speeds up to 5Gbps for USB 3.0. Send us an email at BelkinCares@belkin.com with your contact details and the link to this review.

Slow

Same problem as above, with various external disks. While a shorter LaCie USB-C port gets me about 140 MB/s, this one is between 20–40 MB/s. MacBookPro 13", using the left hand ports, Porsche LaCie 8GB. The speed basically tripled with the LaCie-cable. I bought three of these cables on the Apple Store due to the claim of the cable delivering high speed data transfer, all three simply do not so far.

Hi, HDSchellnack,

What you have experienced is very uncommon. As expected, your Thunderbolt 3 Cable should support speeds up to 5Gbps for USB 3.0. However, for a USB 3.1 host connected to another USB 3.1 device such as a hard drive, it is capable of supporting data transfer up to 10Gbps. Get in touch with us at BelkinCares@belkin.com with your contact information and the link to this review. We'll have our Support Team take a closer look at this odd behavior.

It is a Thunderbolt cable!

I was very surprised to read the reviews and even more surprised when I read the answers from Belkin. It is an active Thunderbolt cable. It does not support USB 3 when connected to a simple USB connection, the cable will in that case act as a USB 2 cable (this comment is valid for the cables I bought about two years ago but it is probably the same today based on the other reviews). I would assume that is why many of the reviewers are getting poor or no performance. I am using two cables to connect to an e-GPU and a Thunderbolt docking station. It works without problem at full speed. The cables does however have a slightly loose fit, that is the reason for only giving it four stars.
I would recommend this to a friend!
