Not up to snuff

I purchased the M102 to replace my P1102. The M102 is dog compared to P1102, slow and stops during print jobs. P1102 was a champ like all the other HP printers I have purchased over the years (11+). Not so much with the M102. I purchased the M102 because it was touted as a professional grade printer. It does not match my old P1102, which was a personal printer. A very substandard HP product. I have never been unhappy with and HP printer in the past, including the 5th All In One we purchased last month.

Technical issues

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had technical issues with the printer from the beginning (the printed pages have some black dots/lines on one margin). I've contacted HP Support several times and they didn't fix the problem.

Doesn't Stay Connected to Wi-Fi

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Aside from the shoddy construction and some inexplicable stray lines that coincide with every print job...the printer does not stay connected to Wi-Fi and thus every time I want to print I have to turn it on and off in hopes that it will magically reconnect to the various computers on the network upon rebooting. A terrible device. I recognize it was not pricey...but I would have paid 5 times for a good printer. I chose this one because it was small and that was my top priority. Size.

Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer has performed so poorly. I can certainly understand why substandard print quality and the failure to maintain a reliable wireless connection would be a tremendously frustrating combination. I want your experience to be better, so I’ll offer some resources I hope will assist you in getting the device working to your satisfaction.

First, I recommend you visit a page on our support site that has diagnostic tools for various issues, including wireless connectivity. Visit that page here:
- support.hp.com/us-en/topic/diagnostics

First, I recommend you follow the steps in a guide to improving print quality that you can find on our support site. This guide covers issues including smeared, fuzzy, dark or faded prints, and loose, partially missing or scattered toner. Find that guide here:
- support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05202849

If any problem persists, I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and find a solution. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

- Model number
- Serial number
- Your location
- Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)

Firmware update bricks printer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Don’t update your firmware on the m102w - it bricks the printer and HP won’t take responsibility.

Amazing little printer!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This compact printer is amazing. It was easy to install and to add our mobile devices for printing. I am enjoying the luxury of sending items to print from anywhere in my home using our IMac, smart phones and IPads. The printer is quiet, prints in a very reasonable time, is easy to load paper, and the ink cartridge lasts forever! This was a great purchase for such a reasonable amount of money!

Decent Product, Installation Is a Disaster
on January 23, 2018

Once I got the printer installed, it worked acceptably, except that it will not print #6 3/4 envelopes from the Word 2010 Envelopes tool, no matter what I do. This seems like something that should just be a matter of course. The big problem is that installation to run via USB port was extremely difficult. None of the documented procedures in the material shipped with the printer worked. The installation claimed it completed successfully, but the list of printers on my Windows 7 machine showed the printer with a big yellow exclamation mark, and right clicking the icon for it showed that the computer was unable to recognize that the device was even a printer. After multiple attempts, I looked up the problem online and found a third-party user forum that described a procedure involving a manual installation using the Windows 7 add-a-printer procedure and searching the Temp files created by past install attempts to find the drivers from the earlier failed install attempts. That produced a working printer. My online searches show that this problem has been around since early 2017, so I cannot fathom why HP has not fixed it. After this bad experience and others with prior printers, I am starting to question HP's commitment to the small/home office market, and I hesitate to recommend their printers, despite having used them happily for many years.

Great Little LaserJet!

I have Office Jet 6700 which I use for color printing, faxing etc. But, printing large documents uses too much ink. The LaserJet M102w is perfect. It is fast and I can print more documents without running out if toner too soon. Perfect.
