This is my third Zojirushi rice cooker so clearly love the cooker. I only wish you offered stainless steel pans. Once this pan starts peeling - and the other 2 have fairly quickly given price - I toss the machine. Replacement parts are hard to find for smaller machines.

Have wanted a Zojirushi rice cooker for a long time. They are expensive. Though you get what you pay for, these are made well and easy to use. Have had several other brands of rice cookers that did not work well. Everything I have made in it has turned out good i.e. wild rice, sprouted brown rice, jasmine rice, steel cut oats, quinoa. Easy to use, small, does not take up a lot of space, enough food for one person and does say for small families. Recommendations are that they add an on/off switch so the plug doesn’t need to be taken out in order to turn it off. Also, to use standard time on the clock instead of 24-hour clock. Otherwise, I would have given it “5” stars.

I’m going to lead with summary conclusion and then you can read the details below if you want.
Summary: Unless you really want the induction feature consider a lower costing model Because I personally do not feel this was an upgrade from my previous rice cooker nor does it really seem to cook any faster. Details below:
This is a nice rice cooker. It’s well built.
I generally cook short grain white rice and brown rice. I buy good quality rice in small bags as I’m not cooking for a crowd.
I had the white Umami model previously and I loved it but unfortunately it was broken during a move. Many of my friends had recommended going to an induction model.
This machine seems more heavy duty with a more heavy duty bowl. It’s a smaller footprint because it’s 3 cup versus 5 cup. Which I was happy with.
I believe it has the same settings minus the umami setting which was no big deal. I used the umami setting once on my old model but but I didn’t like how long it took to cook nor the consistency of the rice as it seemed mushy.
All that said the big takeaway for me is I think with the regular settings frankly the rice tasted better in the umami model And I wish I had bought that instead!
I also found that because this is induction I have to use more water than the markings show or end up with super dry almost scorched bottom rice. Yes I know that could be indicative of an older batch of rice but I really think it’s the induction heating. It’s not a big deal as long as you’re aware.
Because it’s all about the rice, right?
Basically I wish I could get a model that’s built like this one, 3 cup size, but white (personal aesthetic preference) and that cooked like my previous umami model.
My daughter is purchasing a rice cooker and I have advised her to purchase the umami model or if She wants a 3 cup cooker//Smaller footprint To consider a micom model and save on the cost.

We will be sure to forward it to our R&D for future use. It's very unusual for the rice cooker to scorch rice, normally this can happen if the rice has excess starch when it's not rinsed thoroughly. As you pointed out, sometimes if the rice is an older then it will not cook as expected. We always recommend testing the rice cooker with a brand new bag of rice to see if that is the case. I have an averagely good IQ. But this is so complicated for me to operate .
Loved the bread maker that’s why I leaned to this brand , but returning this complicated little machine.

Select your desired menu setting 2. Press Cooking. Then the rice cooker will let you know when the rice is done!

Not a Japanese quality I expected; there is an apparent cosmetic defects on the cooker; even though I can live with it but certainly, attention to details is not bteer than any Chinese made Zojirushi I seen in the past
