Great for Blending - Not so for food processing.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The one-piece blender jar eliminates the need to disassemble blades from jar to clean which is big plus for me.
Instructions state blender jar is dishwasher safe however; it will only fit on the bottom rack of the dishwasher. If you use the dishwasher heating element to dry your dishes it may become too hot.
Blender jar lid has an opening making it possible to pour contents of blender jar while the lid is attached. Recessed indentations on each side of the jar make it easier to hold the jar with your left hand while holding the jar handle with your right hand while pouting out contents.
Blender base has no on/off button, just an off button. Each function button, ie; grind, grate, whip, puree etc.; turns the blender on and the off button stops each of the blender functions. As a result, if you are accustomed to leaving our blender plugged into an electrical outlet, inadvertently depressing any of the function buttons will start the blender so the instructions say to turn the base unit off and unplug from the electrical outlet.
Function Buttons – The blender base function buttons are labeled on a shiny metallic plate. The glare from my 6 overhead recessed kitchen lights reflecting off the metallic plate made it difficult to read the labels for each button. A black background with white lettering or a white background with black lettering would be much better.
The grate, ice crush, grind and chop buttons did not work satisfactorily for me.
Chop function - I tried chopping 1/3 cup of pecans using the low speed/chop function and the nuts turned to powder with a few nuts that were just broken and not chopped.
Ice Crusher function - I tried the ice crusher function with 10 half-moon ice cubes and they did not crush. I then tried another batch of 10 adding ½ cup of water and experienced the same results. With the 3rd batch I used one cup of water and 7 of the ice pieces turned to slush and about 3 were just broken chunks.
Grater Function – Using the pulse function on low speed, I attempted to grate a medium size apple which I halved and then cut each half into 4 pieces for a total of 8 pieces. I got about a teaspoon of grated apple and the blades kept spinning but did not pick up the apple pieces. I removed the jar, shook it to dislodge the apple pieces and tried again with no success.
The stir, whip, puree, milkshake, ice drink and smoothie functions all performed in a very satisfactory manner and I was pleased with the results.
Conclusion: The small printed instruction booklet contains to instructions for using each of the functions so using these functions for grating, chopping, ice crushing etc.; is just guesswork. If you just use this blender to stir, whip, puree, make a milkshake, ice drink or smoothie, it works very well. If I was rating just those functions, I would give this blender a 5-star rating. Because of the other function deficiencies’, the difficulty in reading the lettering on the function buttons and there being no combined off/on switch I rate it only 4 stars. As I blender, I would recommend it to friends. My Hamilton Beach food processor does a much better job of grating and chopping.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have used the Hamilton Beach Smoothie blender and really enjoy the different speeds. The milk shake speed was perfect for the different kinds of milk shakes we like to make. The ice crusher speed did a great job on ice cubes and the icy drink speed turned really good drinks with icy crunch in them. My granddaughter made some smoothies that were fabulous. The all in one blender container was very nice to wash in the dish washer instead of having to take it apart to clean it like other blenders we have had. This is a great blender that should take care of all your blending needs.

Little Trouper of a Blender

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was looking forward with mixed feelings for my Smoothie 10 speed Blender to arrive in the mail. I have several blenders and they are all adequate for their intended purpose, and all have the same flaw: they eventually begin to leak around the bottom, where the gasket is.
Hamilton Beach has done away with all that messiness with the Smoothie 10 speed. The ample blending jar and the blade are all one piece. Here was the source of my mixed feelings: the combo blade/blending jar was an awesome idea – no more leak disasters! But on the other (and perhaps more important) hand – how difficult was it to get clean? An answer to that question in a moment.
As far as operation goes, I found the Smoothie/Grind button to be the most robust of the speeds. I added 8 ounces of water (per the excellently detailed instruction pamphlet), threw in a few chunks of frozen spinach and used the Ice Crusher button. It chopped for a moment, then a big chunk got stuck on the side and I had to stop the blender and push it back down. This was a bit of a bother, but then frozen spinach is not ice; perhaps ice would have been crushed. The good news is, after adding blueberries and bananas (neither frozen) and then utilizing the Smoothie/Grind button, everything was chopped and blended completely.
Next, I made Pecan Pie smoothies, which call for Medjool dates and of course, pecans. Again making sure that there was 8 ounces of liquid in the blending jar, I added the dates and used that Grind button. After much noise (not unexpected), the blender came through with the oft-mentioned flying colors, obliterating the gummy dates and (later) the hard pecans.
I’m not sure if it is part of the design of this machine, but you can tell when your smoothie is smooth when it begins to make a swirling, wave-like motion inside the blending jar. Before this occurs, while it is still chopping, the motion of the contents are more erratic and splashy. Once it kinda resembles soft-serve ice cream, you know it is completely mixed.
I liked the hard plastic lid and filler cap, as opposed to some other blenders that offer softer, rubberier tops.
While we’re waiting on the dishwasher and the answer to the ease-of-cleaning question, here are a few things I didn’t like about the Smoothie 10 speed Blender. They are not in any way deal-breakers – overall, it is a very useful appliance. I don’t care for the metallic sticker listing the names of the speeds, because the black lettering thereon is difficult to read. Perhaps my kitchen is just dark. Secondly, I noticed that the lid creeps upwards during the Smoothie/Grind speed. It never came all the way off, but I felt compelled to put my hand on top of the lid to hold it in place while using this speed.
Now for the most important feature (to me, anyway): the ease of cleaning. The instructions caution you not to use the “Sani” setting on your dishwasher, as this cycle’s temperatures “could damage your product.” In other words, the hottest water will melt the blending jar. (I had this happen with the tray to a high chair once, but that is an entirely different story.) So, I rinsed the blending jar thoroughly, taking care to remove all smoothie dregs that I could see, and put it in the lower rack and set the temp to regular wash. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it came out clean. I would not want to try to scrub around the sharp blades if it had been “left to soak” in the sink, however.
In conclusion: the Smoothie 10 speed Blender is excellent for making smoothies, and if you are willing to clean it immediately after use, then it is a great addition to your kitchen.

Good Basic Blender

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a good basic everyday blender. I have found it useful for making crushed Ice fruit drinks, High proteen drinks and even pancake batter. The large capacity blender container is easy to use and easy to clean up as well. The only issue is with the high pitched motor noise when you use the blender on the high setting. Thankfully that is only for a brief period. This is a good overal kitchen appliance.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Took this out of the box.. washed it.. poured in the daquari mix and had a very happy evening. This is just the right size and style for making frozen drinks and smoothies. My husband was impressed with it as it took the place of the blender we had from the 1980's. All of my Hamilton Beach appliances really work well for me and my family. I can't wait for fresh fruit season to get here so that I can make healthy smoothies and milkshakes!

Scrapes the sides consistently

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My old blender wasn’t near as efficient as this one. It has several different settings, all of which consistently mix anything in it. The biggest thing is that whenever I add ice for a smoothie it doesn’t leave huge chunks of ice when I’m done. It definitely makes a difference. It also matches my kitchen!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Easy to use. 10 speeds makes blending easy. The carafe is all one piece, & so easy to clean. Just add soap & hot water to the carafe, & pulse a few times. The lid includes a small measuring cup to add ingredients from the top while blending.
