Good sound..... But...

Good sound, but was not impressed that to stream music from my phone directly to the receiver from Spotify requires a Premium subscription. The same with at least 1 other App.
Also, Best Buy and Onkyo websites state " 100W RMS per channel at 8 Ohms, 20Hz–20kHz, 0.08% THD, 2 channels driven " . Yet while going through the Setup a second time I fell upon a function " Select your speaker impedance " with 2 choices - 4 Ohms or 6 Ohms. In preparation to buying this TX-8270 (which I received today), I purchased a decent pair of 8 Ohms 130W RMS floor standing speakers for $1000.
Most 2.0 channel amps have a 4 or 6 Ohms switch at the back. Since this one doesn't I assumed I needed 8 Ohms speakers. Now I find out this 2.0 receiver is capable of pushing higher than 100W RMS into 6 Ohms speakers. Very, very disappointed and might be returning this TX-8270.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great receiver

It's a great amp.
4 things worth mentioning:
1) The BestBuy rep told me I could use Bluetooth headphones with this unit. Wrong! According to Onkyo... "The built-in Bluetooth only allows portable devices such as a phone, tablet or computer to stream music to the receiver."
2) It needs to be connected via HDMI to a screen in order to initially setup the unit (or make config settings later).
3) The volume control is a bit "odd".
The output volume stays very low until the volume control gets up to around 35-40 (out of 100??) and then it increases rapidly past that point.
The volume control on my old receiver behaved much differently. The volume level increased gradually across the entire range without any rapid increases.
I asked Onkyo tech support about it and they said... "This is normal behavior for the receiver. The volume control on these units typically scale exponentially, meaning it gets louder faster as the volume increases. This is because it is compatible with any type of speaker that you could connect to it, and has a wide range of power output to push audio through the speakers."
4) Onkyo's tech support is great! They respond very quickly.
