Wouldn't have bought this myself, but it came with appliance package that the builder put in.

the drain collar is proprietary and non standard so you cant use alternate collars. Only the collar that ships with the unit The rubber catch/guard does stop sound, but it also restricts water too much so you will get the sing to fill up a bit (until the wait pushes the 'leaves' open sufficient for flow. It is possible to use scissors to make the central hole a little larger sufficient for flow.

parts fall off

Have had it for 3 years and the grinding blade has come off- not a fixable part. Will have to replace

Poor performance

I am extremely disappointed with this unit. The unit came with our new manufactured home we just purchased. We upgraded to the1/2 HP from the 1/4 HP that came standard with the home. This disposal is VERY LOUD and NOISY. It sounds like there is something stuck in it. We searched around inside to make sure there was nothing stuck in there to cause a problem. I could not give this machine a good rating.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

GE disposers can grind food waste at a rate of 8000 rpms. It is powerful enough to grind chicken bones and small steak bones. A disposer can sound like a blender running or even a small vacuum sweeper. This is normal.

This product lasted very long

I had a GE disposer for 9 years. The model I purchased was the replacement model, since the model I originally had was discountinued. GE makes very reliable products. The old disposer was a work order and performed very good. I will always buy GE products because of the durability and realibility.

Only reason I gave an overall ratring of good instead of excellent is that I had a very difficult time installing the cushion mount - getting in the grove into the lip of the lip on the sink flange installed properly. Very difficult holding the sink flange up while lining up the grove. Finally goit it in the grove properly (I think), then couldn't get the hopper projections all the way to the left (only about 1/2 way). Checked it out and have a slight water leak which I hope will clear up afer awhile
I would recommend this to a friend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have used this disposal daily since we moved five months ago. It hasnt jammed at all and clears the drain leaving no ordors.
