This can be a great laptop depending on what you expect from it. If you want a light weight laptop for watching stuff, browsing the internet and travelling then this is a good choice.
However, I was adding some animations to my power point slides the other day and at some point the laptop was barely functioning, and to top it off the battery started to deplete really fast during the process. Also, when I try to use Origin Pro, some really weird stuff happen; like the graphs suddenly turn black, saving them seems impossible and the software crashes which is really inconvenient considering how much my work is dependent on such data software.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not quite on par with my previous T430

My previous laptop was a T430 and I loved it so very much. As a programmer, I want a laptop that can handle heavy daily usage, because I use it for work, hobbies and just about everything. The T430 was a great buy, it lasted 6 years after suffering many hours of work every day and finally earned its rest.
I've bought the T470s back in November and I immediately felt awkward about the keyboard, but thought I just needed getting used to it.
I've installed Ubuntu on it and everything works correctly, without needing any customisations or drivers. After using it for a few months, I feel I need to report some annoyances to other potential buyers.
The trackpoint feels very uneasy and often gets stuck under the "G" key, causing the cursor to move until your fiddle with the trackpoint to get it unstuck. I've never had this problem with the T430, so this was a bit shocking after only a few months of use.
The keyboard is definitely not on par with the T430, it doesn't feel comfortable like the T430 was for programming and typing in general.
Overall, its a decent a laptop, and the average customer will probably find it suited for their needs, but its definitely not a laptop for someone who does a lot of typing and rely on using the trackpoint.

I purchased this laptop and I am super happy with it. It is very fast and light, the battery life is ok... Not outstanding but I am a student and on campus there is always a plug near by. The only downside of it is that I wish it had a brighter screen on some situations and the speakers are very weak, but I am always using my earphone so it is not a deal breaker thing for me.
