Orbi AC2200 Tri Band

I purchased a Negear Orbi'„¢ Home WiFi after purchasing another brand the previous year along with 2 range extenders modules that plugged into the wall outlets. Those worked pretty well for about a year and then I would have to reboot them constantly to connect TVs in the other end of the house. It was a real pain, to put it lightly. So, I went to the electronics store to check out other options and ran across this Netgear Orbi. Unlike the units with the range extenders, these are quite different. They extend the range of your WiFi but do so with satellites rather than extenders. Satellites are different in that they are integral to the home network and create a "Mesh Network" in the area and connect to the home base unit automatically...because they are part of the base unit, not add on range extenders that have to be linked to the base.
I have 5 bars everywhere in my house now. i'm happy as can be!!

Wifi Problems, no more

I have always struggled to get good wifi connection through my story and a half house of 3400 sqft. I have tried all different combinations including google fibers answer. None have done what this one has done. Have strong signal through my entire house and even my yard. The other thing that was awesome is seamless roaming, no dropping and reconnecting every time i walk to the kitchen or the kids rooms. Setup was super easy and everything was already paired so all i had to do was plug in and go. The one complaint is that i can't seem to turn off broadcasting my SSID but that really isn't that big of an issue. One other thing that is really awesome, when we have a firepit going in the front i just turn on guest access and everyone is happy and if for some reason we don't have enough signal out on the front part of the lot, i unplug one of the satellites and move it to my covered front porch outlet and away we go.

FAST

Dang. My son is a computer engineering major at a large California University, junior status in fall 2018. He said this is the fastestWiFi I could get. Welp, I guess I've entered that stage of life where my kid has surpassed me. He's right. My speeds are routinely 300mbps. Always. Like 292-306ish. And it's consistent. No drop off periods, no phantom loss of speed or service in almost 2 years now (I just bought another satellite prompting this review.) Did I mention I live in an adobe house? Yep. Walls 1 ft thick, and likely full of all sorts of lead (don't worry, it's encapsulated under plaster.) the signal travels through those walls without any issues. Highly recommend. Oh, and if you do get this system, return the router you are renting from your service provider and buy your own little basic modem. The starter pack of orbi has the router you need. This purchase was just an add-on satellite, so don't be confused.

Best Home Wifi Systems
on May 29, 2019

Tried many ways to improve my home wifi experience, both coverage and performance. My router is at one side of the corner of the house inside a room. Even worse, there are several walls blocking the signals when across the building. I tried the single router with strong signals, adding an additional antenna, putting it on top of the furniture, adding wifi extender, etc. None works to meet my expectation, either the coverage is not enough or the transmission speed suffers, especially on the other end of the house on a different floor. BTW, my house is 3000+. All that being said, Orbi RBR40 is really a lifesaver. Easy to setup with my phone, great connection speed and great coverage. Also the reason I choose RBR40 is that its satellite doesn't need an extra cable, so much more convenient to find a place to plug it in, without having to have a table or similar to hold it. Did I mention that it has guest mode too? Overall I'm very satisfied.

Finally, I can live in peace

After months of hearing from my teenager how our wi-fi "sucked" and "was the worst in the world" and "was ruining her life" (she wasn't entirely wrong, but still, it was a bit over the top), I decided I too was tired of dealing with irritating interruptions, constant router resets, and trying to figure out why my wi-fi repeater decided to brick itself. Having learned about mesh wi-fi, I was a little skeptical that it would be that much better. I was wrong. After 5 months, we have had zero problems with this system. Setup was straightforward. Our coverage is amazing. No longer am I trying to change my grip to see if it will amplify the antenna or scootching over to a different side of the bed to see if the signal gets one bar better. There are few things I have purchased that have been worth every penny in saved frustration. And now my daughter can explore all the other things that we are doing to ruin it besides wi-fi. It's a new day.

Finally...a real solution

We have Spectrum 300Mbps pkg (which of course never reaches near that speed on wifi). We have a 3,400 square foot house and couldn't get good wifi in certain areas inside and outside. Movie night always had "intermission" (spinning ball, which required wifi extender to be unplugged and plugged back in). With the Orbi (2 satellites) we have FULL coverage, even out into our backyard, and GREAT speed. I had a 100ft cat6 cable running from the router to my sons bedroom for his Playstation in order to get decent performance. Now with the Orbi, we can get rid of the long cord through the house and he just uses the Orbi access point which is giving him great speed for gaming and streaming. Also, our wifi printer would never wake up when we printed - we always had to turn it off/on. Now that it is on the orbi ssid, no restarts needed to "wake it up". NOTE: the setup took a few tries, but I am so happy I am not going to take a star off just for that.

From a crawl to a sprint

Since moving into our home many years ago, we have struggled with connection issues, whether it be 5mbs when my door is open, to <1mbs when I shut my door (modem/router is in kitchen/livingroom). This issue has been even more painful as a few friends fell on hard times nad have been rooming with us. Dropped connections , streaming interupted , playback failures, etc. Decided this was going to be my gift for the house. Setup was SO simple , and control over access is an app away. the second I was setup I ran a speedtest from my phone tablet and computer (satellite is in my room, base is in kitchen) 190-251mbps down 21-25mbps up, and ive done this multiple times with consistent results. My btother was a non believer, so I'll take a screen shot of our old networks speedtest and one of the orbi, jealousy. Once he admits I was right , I'll take him off my guest network. Buy this. Ive already made converters of multiple friends. Mesh is the way to go.

So far so Great!

I have had this Orbi system about a week. As of now, I like it. This is the only wireless router we have had in our new home so I do not have anything to compare it to. We have a tri-level house and our WiFi works perfectly both downstairs, on the main level, and upstairs. We have multiple devices connected including 2 Xboxs, 3 Amazon Echo devices, 4 cell phones, 2 tablets, and 3 computers. I have had issues one time when gaming, but it is to be expected with the specific game. Otherwise, everything works great so far! I also love that I can download the Orbi app and review my connection, devices, and even speed. I think the best feature is the Disney Circle app that it works with. It allows me to name each device connected and assign it to a profile. I have specific times, apps, and websites blocked for my 3 kids. It works great! I can even instantly pause the internet on any device I choose. I love all of the features! I will update this review as needed.
