I use the Sherpa 50 on a daily basis to keep my electronics charged when I'm backpacking and on the road. Backpacking, I leave the Solar panel at home for trips of 3 days or less and the power pack has plenty of reserve to keep my phone, gps and headlamp fully charged for the entire trip. I use to take the Guide 10plus but I would have to charge the powerpack daily in order to charge my devices nightly. With the Sherpa 50, it has enough capacity that I don't have to do that and can get by with just the powerpack on my short trips into backcountry. On the road, I use the kit to keep my laptop and mobile broadband hotspot charged up and it allows me to work where I want to work. No more going into Starbucks or Panera to find a plug. I find myself enjoying the freedom of working without the need for a location with access to a power plug. At home, I use the same setup to work outside on the deck and as a backup in case of a power outage for my personal electronics. I love this kit and would recommend it to anyone!

I use mine mostly for music while rafting and then light at night. Also for backpacking. Does the jobs I need it to and does them well!

Never Leave Home Without It!!

I have owned this for about a year as I was on the wait list and purchased as soon as they came out. I travel a lot all over the country and am in the field quite a bit and wanted something I could have in my laptop bag to charge my iphone and iPad mini no matter where I was, i.e. working on meteorological towers in the middle of nowhere, sometimes needing to hike in. The power pack has a permanent place in my laptop bag, the solar panels / inverter I bring when I think I'll need them, and the wall charger is at the office. I leave the lightning cable plugged in and hanging out of my laptop bag and can charge everything while it's all sitting in there. So convenient! I have tried similar power packs from other manufacturers and keep going back to goal zero. The functionality is unparalleled. I keep looking at others because I am not sold on the durability of this unit as the case feels like cheap plastic. I keep thinking it's not going to last but it has held up great so far. That is my only complaint, I wish they would make it more rugged with some rubber on the case. That way I could put it on the dashboard or backpack and not have it slide around so much. I went on a month long trip in Idaho where sunshine was very hard to come by, and I challenged myself for the five weeks that I was there to only power my iPhone and iPad mini with the power pack charged from the solar panels. It got close simply because sunshine is so hard to come by there, but was able to pull it off. Also, I've lost power at my house several times, once for 6+ hours in the last year. We plugged in the light-a-life lantern and my neighbors who actually have a backup gasoline generator came over because they saw the lights on and played cards all night. Cool factor was maxed out. It takes me between 5-8 hours to get a full charge for the power pack with direct sunlight. Out of a fully charged power pack I'll get 2 full charges plus another ~20% or so for my iPad mini, and I've lost count how many iPhone charges, but easily 7-8+. Great product but please make them rubberized on the outside so it will stay put! Or make a case!

Saved me at the National Scout Jamboree!

Bought this last summer for and it was a lifesaver at the National Scout Jamboree. Power wasn't widely available but I needed to be in constant contact via my cell. There was plenty of sun and the Sherpa and the solar panel kept me juiced up. Taking it backpacking this summer!!
