Extremely well designed and very durable

I'm an avid backpacker and although bringing a solar panel adds a fair bit of weight (plus my venture 30)(It's not THAT heavy...), it is definitely worth the little bit extra haul! What blew me away was the rigorous design of the panel. The panel is extremely durable, rigid and the materials used are extremely high quality, not to mention water proof which is a huge plus. I had high hopes when I purchased this panel, and upon opening it I was extremely pleased. Even the carabiners that came with the panel aren't just cheep flimsy ones; they're strong and durable also. Looking forward to testing this more, but upon first couple weeks, it's been great! Been able to pull in 8-10 Watts on a sunny day, which is great for a panel this size. (You never actually get 14W). Overall, very well made product. One that will last.

Better Than Nomad 14

Just got this along with the Venture 30. So far I like it better than my old nomad 14. I'm getting about 30% charge on my Galaxy S7 in a hour with only 2 lights on the nomad. The nomad can easily charge my phone in less than 3 hours! I'm sold and I will be buying another one soon!

I bought and use this solar panel in very sunny conditions (Huayhuash 5000 meters trek in Peru / Joshua Tree Dessert / ...) and I am very disapointed. First, do not expect to walk around with that device hanging on your pack and expect it to charge. This is marketing and it won't happen! It charges only under direct and steady hard sun. Even under harsh sun, I never got full four leds on. If you connect a power bank to it it will probably keep on charging steady and slow but connect a iPhone directly to it will absolutely not give you a steady charging link. Charging a phone directly with this panel needs a very steady sun input. The second you get some kind of shade it connect / disconnect constantly. Last thing. The six spot of glue that where holding the panel and the mesh stash pouch toghether just gave up on me after a few days of use. Picture that! Enough hard sun to melt the glue but not enough to charge fast and steady. NOT recommended.

I bought it, and I am so happy that I did. All my electronics are fully powered out in the wild thanks to this light and capable marvel of high tech innovation!
Highly recommend it if you are space and weight conscious, but do jot wish to sacrifice your experience with nature. Awesome for my photography equipment and video cam needs, as well as for my iPhone & iPad.

I was initially excited, it looked great and the performance and durability claims were impressive. I bought it to power up my iPhone, iPad, UV Water steriliser, powerbank and LED Light, whilst I’m hiking Australia’s National Trail. The trail is 5300 kilometres long and takes me into some very remote and harsh wilderness, so I definitely wanted something that was reliable. It’s Goal Zero I cant go wrong....or so I thought. I’m 2000 kilometres in now and I’ve had the panel replaced four times. It doesn’t live up to any of its performance claims. It’s a solar panel that doesn’t like the sun. The glue securing the magnets that holds the stand and cord pocket melts and causing the whole thing to fall off and unable to be reattached. The face of the panel blisters in the heat (delaminates), resulting in performance degradation. With my first two panels after only a couple of weeks use I was unable to charge at full power in full sun, deteriorating to only being able to get one led to blink. The third panel took a few days before the charging performance reduced to only a dribble in full sun. The forth panel failed after an hour. A fifth is being shipped to me for me to collect at my next resupply point - I’m not all that hopeful it will be any different. The product is a dud! Oh and yes I gave up trying to charge devices whilst on the move as when you enter shade it switches off altogether.

I took the Nomad 14 Plus to the Boundary Waters and it completely disappointed me. What was supposed to be new technology, failed when I needed it most- to power my headlamp, camera and other devices. If you are taking this panel off the grid and relying on it for your power source, beware! Anytime clouds came thru, the panel would immediately go to low charging and not return when the sun came back- thus wasting precious hours of charging potential. I know this is a new product, but this should've been ironed out before releasing it to the public...

Follow-up on my Nomad 7 Plus

I was super excited for the Nomad 14 Plus. It was delayed several times i think. When i finally tested it, I had the same issues like the others, that it would not continue charging after shade/low light. This kind of makes the panel worthless. I can't stand by and watch my stuff beeing charged.
Especially strange since the Nomad 7 never had issues with it.
Thought both panels plummet charge rate heavily when they heat up. Concerning their LEDs this was much more than solar panels reduce efficiency when heating up in general. (supposed to be maximum of 20%). On the panels it was more than 50%. Sometimes in full sun 1 LED (~75% ?)
I purchased this panel for an upcoming back country trip to keep my phone, GPS, power packs and other electronics up and running. I have tested this out here at home to see how it worked and so far it has worked fantastic charging everything that I purchased it to charge in the back country. It is a little on the heavy side and seems to be very rugged and well built but I won't know for sure how it will hold up to the abuse its about to get until I have run it thru the paces during my trip. I personally think that Goal Zero could have cut the weight of this item down considerably by eliminating the 5+ foot long cord that they have hard wired to the one leg of the charging cord. I personally think that Goal Zero should have just made the 8mm charging cables Male and Female ends after the Y for the Junction Box with Solar Intensity Indicator both the same short length to cut down on weight. If a longer cable would be needed for Chaining a SEPARATE longer chaining extension cable could be attached, this would help reduce the weight some and give you the option to carry the extra weight or leave it behind, just my opinion.
