I purchased a set of these used, sold the used set, and replaced with new. I used the dumbbells as accessory exercises to support a mostly barbell-focused strength training regimen. I would have preferred the 90 lb version, but I don't think the design is robust / durable enough for a heavier weight. Others in my household also use the product that don't have a history of strength training - I would say the product is better suited towards a general fitness audience than for someone that has a longer history of strength training. My review will include my perspective as well as the general fitness perspective of other household members. There are things I like about the product, and things I don't like. Likes: the product is easy to use, and and the 2.5 lb increments on the low end is really good for people beginning a strength training regimen. Weight changes are quick and convenient, and product has a small footprint - i.e. it takes very little space. The product feels like a traditional dumbbell in use. Dislikes: The plastic coating of on the underside of the plates is subject to wear over time and the coating begins to separate from the underlying metal plates. Once this happens, the plastic can interfere with the plate selection mechanism which compromises functionality. This can be fixed by gluing the coating to the plates, which restores proper function but not "like new". I never dropped the dumbbells, but I don't think they would withstand much impact. Also, the length of the dumbbells never change, so a 5 lb dumbbell has the same length as the 52.5 lb, which feels a little clunky.
