These perform every bit as well as I had hoped. Great for those times you can't make it to the gym. I did buy the heavy duty bench for stability. The only negative is that you may outgrow these weights and have to move up. Great problem to have! As far as stability, if you're the kind of joker that throws or drops weights than you may break them. I can't imagine having any problems at all otherwise.

I was able to use my selectechs from the moment I opened the box. All you do is dial the amount of weights you need and pick up! Within the few months of using it, my arms have become one of my best features!! I've worked out and lost weight in the past, but my arms remained untoned and flabby! I'm a fairly busy over 40 mom with young, active children but I try to get in 1-2 cardio, 1-2 resistance, and one yoga workouts a week. The Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells make it soooo much easier to lift weights. All right there in a small amount of space and easy to adjust. It helps keep me on track with regular workouts when it's not a hassle to have the proper equipment. The only problem I sometimes have is with the length of the dumbbells when I am doing exercises like bilateral overhead presses. I have to hold them a bit farther apart due to this than I'd like. It's a minor problem and doesn't affect my overall satisfaction with the dumbbells!!

These are great dumb bells. They are very easy to use and no assembly required. The stand is good as well and the assembly of the stand is simple. I had heard that it's not good to rotate the selector past 50lb to the 5lb selection and wish there was a lockout to prevent it.

There is no harm is rotating the selector passed the 50lbs to the 5lbs selection. Be sure to inspect the dumbbells prior to each use and follow the operating instructions located in the Owner's Manual.
