Started the p90x program, used a cheap set of adjustable dumbbells, spent more time trying to adjust then able to work out. Bought the select tech and love they way they are easy to adjust, wide range of weight, no fighting to get the weights off the stand. Haven't found anything that I can't do with them yet.
Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Multifunctional, Targets Muscles
The real tradeoff is number of dumbbells versus a bulky weight. If you don't mind bulky you will save a lot of space. and money. It is not sturdy at all. Be careful not to drop it even from small heights. The weight clips are plastic and will break. Every weight targets muscles depending on how one uses them so do not expect special muscle targeting features from this weight either. It is very easy to set your weight and it does not feel flimsy. The uneven loading may come in handy for some exercises. Get the stand. It is easier on your back when fully loaded.
I LOVE these weights!!!!! I live in a very small house and don't have a lot of room for individual weights. I don't have a gym membership and wanted to up my weights (5 lbs weren't cutting it). I saw these weights and was nervous about getting them. Most of the reviews I read were great, but the few that were negative were about the size (and the size of the user). I am 5'2 (and female), so I thought they would be too big for me. I loved them instantly! They are so easy to adjust the weight. It's easy when you have to change the weights quickly as well. I will admit that if you have the room to have individual dumbbells that that would be easier, but for someone who has very little room this is a great option. They are a lot bigger than regular hex dumbbells, and because of the size some exercises are a little awkward and take some getting used to. But overall I am SO glad I purchased these!!! I got the stand as well, and it is the perfect height for grabbing the weights without hurting your back. The stand is a bit big, so I'm not able to "hide" my weights from company. But I think I would end up hurting my back if I stored these on the floor. Maybe eventually I'll figure something out, but for now I'm glad I got the stand also. (As a side note, other negative reviews I read about the weights were that pieces broke off and did not hold the plates correctly-being dangerous, but I guess that is on an old model. The problem has been fixed and is not an issue with the newer model that is being sold now). The stand took a while for me to put together, but I got it done. It is very sturdy and holds the weights great. I wish it was smaller, but I understand it has to be bulky enough to hold the weight. No regrets with this purchase at all!!!!
