I purchases a set of these about 8 months ago. When I had seen these dumbbells in Sporting Goods stores they were almost always broken, so I was somewhat leary of spending over $400 for a set. After reading a number of reviews, it seemed other owners either loved or hated the dumbbells. The haters usually complained about them breaking. I concluded that the people that were having problems with them breaking were probably the same people that were used to dropping their dumbbells at the end of a set like I've seen so many times at a gym. That lead me to be very careful with my set and so far absolutely no problems. Conclusion - if you plan to throw these around, they'll likely break, so buy standard dumbbells. If you can controll yourself and treat them carefully, you should be happy with the Selecttech dumbells.
I've had the 552 dumbbells for almost 2 months now, have been exercising with them at least 3 times a week, and do not regret my purchase. This product works exactly as designed and so far I have not found any flaws. In my opinion, they are worth the price if you are looking for a home gym that doesn't take up a lot of space.
Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Multifunctional, Targets Muscles
Have been checking out the adjustable dumbbells on the market for some time and the Bowflex variety caught my attention as being closest to "real" dumbbells with "real weights". The price was right plus I recieved a free adjustable bench. I am able to do a full bodybuilding routine several days a week just using these dumbbells and I am slowly but surely transforming my body. Perhaps best of all, they sit neatly out of the way in my living room. All in all, a good buy.
Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Multifunctional, Targets Muscles
The 552 dumbells actually let me get the exact weight I need for those all important last reps. Let's face it, if you're lifting too light or too heavy you're either not helping yourself or causing possible damage. This product allows you nail the weight that safely builds muscles - period. And who can argue with the amount of space it takes up?
Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Multifunctional
Thank you Bowflex for helping me to facilitate strength training and conditioning with such a convenient and unobtrusive system. They fit neatly in a corner of my bedroom and I now workout with them regularly. I am saving money on a gym membership and the time it takes to get there, as well. This is a win-win situation.
Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Multifunctional, Targets Muscles
I bought the weights to do my workout DVDs at home. They are great I can make the weights heavier or lighter depending on which body part I am working. They are very convenient because you only need one set of weights to go from 5 ponds to 55 pounds. Which makes storage easy.
MY 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS A COMPETITIVE SWIMMER AND USES THE SelectTech 552 DUMBBELLS FOR SHOULDER MAINTENENCE WORK. I HAVE STARTED WORKING OUT WITH MY DAUGHTER. SWITCHING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN WEIGHTS IS ACCOMPLISHED WITH GREAT EASE. COMBINED WITH THE selectTech BENCH I GET A THOROUGH WORKOUT. THE DUMBBELL STAND FINISHES OUT THE SET GIVING THE ROOM AN ATTRACTIVE MODERN APPEARANCE FOR A FAIR PRICE.
