I appreciate the compact size and convenience of Bowflex's 552 Dumbbells. I have little trouble switching from 7.5 to 15 pounds and only have to make a slight turn if the weights do not lift up right away. I use the 552 Dumbbells for P90X workouts and general strength training such as back squats or individual hang cleans. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because conducting the P90X's tricep extensions with the palms facing the ceiling with the dumbbells is a bit difficult due to the dumbbell's width. I make an adjustment by moving my arms further away from my body to be able to make a full extension and after a couple of repetitions, I've got the move down and still receive a great tricep workout. Great product otherwise, easy to use and very sturdy!
Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Multifunctional, Targets Muscles
These are a huge improvement over my old plate/adjustable dumbbells. It's amazing how much faster I can move through the p90x workout. Very happy with these -- and loving the stand (or my back is, anyway). Hightly recommend these. The only downside is the length of the bar with low weights. This was similar to my old set, but it is only a minor incovenience, more than made up for by the fast workouts!
If you need free-weights/dumbells and you live in an apt. or house where you don't have room or money for two walls of dumbells, this is the way to go. I bought a less expensive set, tried them for a week and wound up taking them back. These were twice the cost but 10 times better quality. I debated over saving money, but the quality makes me feel like these will last much longer.
The look and feel of the dumbbells is very sleek and modern. I purchased the stand and it fits perfectly in the corner of my room. The main advantages the SelectTechs is the ability to quickly select different weight incriminates. The dumbbells are larger than traditional dumbbells you might be use to. The grip have a nice wide feel to them however if you are not wearing gloves they will tend to become a bit slippery during use. The SelectTechs did come with a DVD that shows you various exercises specifically designed for these dumbbells, I really did not find this to useful though. The only issue that I have seen so far is that when weights are locked there is a noticeable wobble in the weights. , which can be a little unnerving. This isn't enough of an issue that it would discourage me from buying them again.
