There were cheaper dumbells out there. I have friends who have bought other brands and they have trouble with the locking mechanism. These work simple and easy everytime, plus Bow Flex stands behind the product. Now when the weights are sitting on the stands I am more apt to pick'em up and bang out a few curls. The guns are getting so big, I may need to file for a permit!

The most useful thing in my home gym. Awesome for all the things that discrete dumbells are used for. They work exactly as advertise. Solid, safe, and reliable. The only negative - at high weights, some of the smaller plates can get stuck or knocked out of their guides. This results in some difficulty returning the dumbell to its stand. The workaround is simply to exercise care in lifting the dumbells from the stand.

I live in a remote area where there is no gym. Over the last year I have managed to lose 130 Lbs and am now interested in toning and tightening. P90x is my next venture which requires dumbbells or resistance bands. I feel dumbbell free weights are of more advantage to me and therefore purchased a set of Bow flex 552. I bought these to go along with my P90x workout. They work as advertised, and the best part is I don't have an entire rack of weights in my living room! 4 instead of 5 stars as they are EXPENSIVE! That being said, you certainly get what you pay for. These things look as great as they work. Highly recommend.

I use these twice a week to tone and build strength. They are very ergonomic, balance and feel are very good. I find it easy to target specific muscles with these. As long as you are careful with them I think they will last a long time. Good grips, came with the stand as a special offer which helped me pull the trigger on this purchase. I just need an incline bench and I will be all set.
