Battery not holding charge

I do not recommend this product. Limited life expectancy (a few years only) cause once the battery does not hold charge anymore the product becomes useless. There is no way to change the battery. Really disapointed in this product. What a waste to just throw the product after a few years just because the battery can not be changed.

I'm an outdoorsman. I hike. I camp. I backpack. The first time I went on a bicycle camping trip, I brought my gas stove, AND the Biolite. Since I fired up the Biolite first, I never used my alternate. I burned, twigs and scrap from the ground. It boiled water and heated our dinner faster than my gas stove EVER could. It also provided some campfire-like warmth; as well as electricity for our devices. In the future I'll keep my pack lighter and just pack the Biolite. No more getting fuels on my hands or leaking into my pack; and no funnel to fiddle with to pour them. Can you tell I LIKE this stove?

What you need!

I own the BioLite Gen1 and the BioLite Gen2 stove. They are fantastic - as good as the company states! It burns sticks and twigs so fuel for this stove is all around you! I also always have a bag of BioLite fuel starter in case of a wet day. The stove heats up very quickly and burns clean (no smoke in your eyes). I've had coffee, tea, hotdogs, KD, and even hamburgers, all cooked on my BioLite. The charging system works great! I use it to recharge my battery packs and for charging my gear-(phone, GPS, head lamp, etc)
If you enjoy outdoor activities and want a reliable and easy to use stove , I highly recommend a BioLite-you will not regret it!

Lasted 4 fires, plugged my phone in while the unit was lit and everything just stopped and hasn't worked since. If I plug it into a socket, the unit flashes red on the battery indicator.

More of a novelty than a useful camp stove. It needs to be filled with sticks too often to cook anything without becoming a nuisance. I wouldnt buy again.

Good design

I own 30+ camping stoves, mostly for wood, and finally got this new version. Have tested it extensively a few weeks, here are my thoughts:
The good: It is well designed, well built and works as advertised. The variable speed fan is excellent at injecting the right amount of air at the right location for a fast, hot burn. A proper burn charges the battery quite well.
The bad: Weight. That's the main issue, no way around it. And it's clearly stated when you buy it, so should not be a surprise. Other minor issues are feeding - you need to remove pot / kettle, and the thermocouple is a little in the way - and transporting, since you stuff the battery (clean) into the burn chamber (NOT clean, and hot after use).
I'd compare this to the standard Solo stove. Burn chamber is similar size, and they both burn wood. This is heavier, but has a much better burn. Especially getting it started is much easier than the Solo. And they take about the same space in your pack.
So if you can live with the weight, this stove is really good.

Wow...a Rocket camp stove! It is excellent quality and delivers significant power to charge my phone. The fire burns very efficiently, though it took about 8 minutes for my water to boil. You get a lot of "mileage" out of the twigs you put in! Thank you!

I have been very pleased with my new BioLite CampStove 2. I use it to charge my cell phone while hiking an camping, as well as for cooking, of course. It works great when the wood is dry. It is a bit heavier than my gas backpacking stove, but I like that I do not have to worry about running out of stove fuel on longer trips. I had used the original BioLite stove for about 5 years until recently, when it suddenly stopped charging the battery. I immediately ordered the new CampStove 2.
I would recommend this to a friend!
