Great concept. Excellent survival equipment. These should be standard in all vehicle and plane survival kits. Literally life saving.

My favorite stove just got better!

I've spent the past 3.5 years climbing, skiing and boating across the Mountainous West of North America all while living full time in my van. For over two years now the original CampStove has been one of my favorite and most used pieces of gear. When I was asked to be an early Beta Tester for the CampStove 2 I was curious about how they might improve it.
Let me tell you, the designers have found a way to make it even better. Sometimes when my original stove was cold it took a while to get enough heat to run the fan. The addition of a built in battery, which can be charged via a USB port before your trip, allows consistent fan power when starting new fires. This is also wonderful for unplanned energy needs when a fire is not ideal, like charging my phone as I sleep.
The light gauges on the front of the power unit gives real time information taking the guess work out of power output, energy production and battery storage. The multiple fan speeds allow you the option to conserve fuel or crank up the heat, best for cooking with a cast iron pan.
It is clear to me that there is intentional design and not simply new bells and whistles.

Science!!!

I first heard about the CampStove before a multi-day backpacking trip through the Uintas (Northeastern Utah) and thought, "why buy a BioLite when you could build a regular fire?" Here's why:
The entire western United States during late-summer is prone to burn, and the forest service (bless their heart) places strict fire restrictions to only petroleum stoves. I thought the BioLite counted as an open-pit fire, but it doesn't - or at least in Utah. As of the day i'm writing this (9/5/2018), I called the Utah Forest Service: (435)-789-7021 and they confirmed the BioLite CampStove falls under the same category as a petroleum backpacking stove.
A camping trip isn't complete without a fire: the smell, crackle, roaring flame... characteristics petroleum backpacking stoves mimic, at best. Aside from the emotional aspect, backpacking with petroleum stoves require several canisters, aren't reusable/refillable, and you never know how much petroleum remains. With the BioLite, you pack a few extra sticks incase it rains, and cardboard. Charges itself. Unlimited fuel.
My only minor complaint, as a backpacker mind you, is weight. However, reducing stress caused by fuel-level uncertainty, possibly equalling the additional weight with added petroleum canisters, and having a forest service recognized device allow you to have a fire going as long as you want --even during no fire season-- totally outweigh the additional pack weight.
My BioLite CampStove is always in my pack!

Have used the 1.ver for more than 6 years now and is top satisfied. Used it on Kilimanjaro top, then served fresh hot coffe coked on dried cowshit. Stoped using gas, this is faster(when on fire) ang gives soo much heat to me og the people around when climbing, hunting, padling, snowscooter safaries, and of course charge my gadgets. Make small bundles of 14cm dry birch, each bundle enough for frying, cok coffe ond 20 min of warming(hands)

Having owned 2 of the early first gen ones this is a welcome upgrade. The micro USB charging is awesome, I wish it was type-c but at least i don't have to make anymore type-A to type-A cables to precharge the unit. Everything about it is better. It's a little snug when inserted into the kettle but it works.

I’ve used it multiple times and it fully does as advertised... a larger burn tube in the future would be great I find it hard to feed good burning wood.I don’t worry about weight or size so much as it’s in the tool box of my quad.

It does exactly what it says it will do on the box. However, you need to set your expectations accordingly. This is an amazingly efficient and hot stove, that can also generate enough USB power for either emergency use or recharging an external battery bank. This will not charge your phone as fast as a wall wart, but it will definitely provide enough juice for an emergency phone call or to power a satcom and issue an SOS. As a stove, it boils water quite quickly and leaves very little soot when using scavenged wood.
