I needed a relatively small fan on my desk while I worked on my computer. This fan is super quiet and I really like the smooth and infinitely adjustable speed knob. It's much better than fans with 3 fixed speed settings. Some times I like just a whisper of air movement and it's easy with this fan, the low setting on other fans I've had were never low enough. But on high, this fan is still quiet but really moves the air. So far, I'm totally happy with this little work horse of a fan. Only somewhat negative, was it's a little high on the price.

I chose this fan after reading some “quietest fan” articles because our cheap fan had been keeping me up at night. The vornado was just what I needed. For a gentle breeze we can’t hear it at all, or just barely, so I can sleep and stay cool. At faster speeds which move a TON of air it gets loud, but we don’t need that at night. We also like that the speed is a continual dial rather than the usual 3 settings which lets you choose exactly the speed you want.

This fan has a ton of power for its size. You can easily adjust the direction of airflow. You can even point it straight up. Regarding ease of adjusting the direction, it’s perfect; not too difficult and not loose at all. The variable speed is an outstanding feature, as it allows you to precisely select the fan speed to your preference. This is my first Vornado but not my last. I’ll definitely be buying another Vornado for my next fan.

I had Vornado fans since the 90s. I have two of these, one for the LR and one for the BR. Very, very soft at lowest settings. The settings are variable. Quite a lot of white noise at the top setting, but that's why I got it. LOVE the white noise of a fan for sleeping! Excellent buy! Highly recommend!!

As a grad student living in a dorm without AC, I wanted a quality fan that will last for more than a year or two. I was a little skeptical about the fan when I saw it was made of plastic, but it is substantial and not low-quality. I love the range from soft to strong speeds the fan has. I wish the power cord was slightly longer, but that's the only thing I can nit-pick about. Would highly recommend!

Just right fan for my small bedroom

I have the bigger 610DC fan too, but I like this model so much better. It has better access to control knob and much better design for picking it up and carrying it between locations. I also like the absence of a power brick. The 533DC is small, but powerful. The air moves well and quietly on the lower speeds. At medium speeds there's an okay white noise sound. At top speeds it's loud, but not nearly so loud as old box fans.
