Horrible keyboard - Asus VivoBook 17.3" laptop

Bought Asus laptop 17" (silver colour) about 4 months ago. The screen is great, but the keyboard is a pain - horrible to use, because much of the keyboard is invisible unless you lean forward right over it, and even then the lettering is faint and hard to see. I have learnt that, by its design and silver coloring, the keyboard is meant to have back-lighting, making the lettering on it brightly visible, but that some are sold without the back-lighting and, further, that it cannot be purchased nor even installed later on! So, a dud, and double dud! Why on earth does Asus sell some of its laptops with dud keyboards, that cannot even be remedied, and torpedo its reputation in this way?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Smooth processor, great looking interface. Chromebooks have always been one of my favorites. The processor is faster is expected.

This is the 3rd Asus laptop I own and they are ALL great!
Asus laptops are very easy to use and start-up is simple.

This is my 2nd Asus and It is a good product! The gold metallic finish is really classy! I could use free trials or a mobile wifi to test it out! Going camping!
