Lots of room but poor design elements...

We bought this fridge as we needed something to accommodate our large family of 9. The fridge is great in this regard as there is a lot of room. My BIGGEST gripe with this fridge is that the tray under the water/ice dispenser does not have a grate in which to catch extra water.... SERIOUSLY? So now anytime I open the fridge door I receive a refreshing splash of water onto my legs and floor.... FUN! The other annoyance is the fact that you cannot "comfortably" fit a gallon of milk on the main shelves of the fridge when the bottom shelf is set to the lowest and the top shelf is set to the highest. The milk jug "does" fit, but only if you tilt it. Perhaps GE assumed that people would only put one or two jugs on the doors as they fit there, but we typically have 3 or 4 milk jugs in our fridge. Finally as others have pointed out, the protective plastic that comes on the fridge is a royal pain in the backside to remove... in fact there are still remnants that constantly remind me of this when I am not getting splashed from the water on the door.
Come on GE you can do better than this!

Hello Athanasius,
I am sorry you are dissatisfied with the product. There is considerable thought and effort devoted to the design of our products. Factors in design decisions are cost, competition, changing technology, and appearance.

Your comments are important to us and I will forward your comments to our product design division. We appreciate your feedback.

LOUD
on May 24, 2017

Loudest refrigerator we've ever owned. It is louder than our operating dish washer. When the water or ice dispenser is closed it sounds as if a jail door is being shut. You can tell when the compressor is working, because you can hear it from 30' away. I read reviews from other people about the high noise level, but never dreamed it would be this loud. Everything seems to operate properly, but the high noise level overrides any positive features of this unit. We have GE built-in convection oven, microwave and cook top in our kitchen and they have been rock solid. We purchased the GE refrigerator to compliment those items. It is too bad this refrigerator does not meet the quality standards of our other GE appliances.

Love the slate fridge!

I did tons of research, and everyone hates stainless because of the fingerprints. We purchased slate appliances for our kitchen remodel, and I couldn't be happier

Had to get three before it was ok.

I designed my entire kitchen around these Slate appliances because I thought they were so beautiful. I'm on my third fridge, third dishwasher, second microwave, but must say first stove. Had I not have ordered my kitchen counter I would have returned these. Paid top price and got rock bottom quality.

Poor craftsmanship

The side panels have buckles, not because of damage done during shipping or use but because of poor craftsmanship. I recommend anyone considering this appliance really look at and rub your hand up and down the side panels. This seems to be the quality put out by GE.

Great Refrigerator/Freezer, except the Ice Maker
on June 12, 2017

Great Refrigerator/Freezer, except the Ice Maker will not produce enough ice. The Ice Maker will not produce enough ice to fill-up the ice storage bin. My wife is not happy at this time with this product. And, you know what that means..... If this Ice Maker is not completely fixed quickly, then, this Refrigerator/Freezer is going back to the store.

Hello. We appreciate the time you took to write a review on your refrigerator. We're sorry to hear your icemaker is not making enough ice. We have several trouble-shooting tips we would like to share with you to help with this issue, found in our following links:

http://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=17763

and:

http://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=17403

Also, when the ice bin is full, the pressure from the weight of the cubes can cause the bottom cubes to fuse and clump. This can prevent the icemaker from making new ice. This typically occurs if the ice is not used on a regular basis. To prevent this from happening, periodically check and clean the bin.

Thank you, again, for your feedback.

Noisy Fridge - Ice Accumulates
on August 3, 2017
Posted by: NaplesRealtor
from Naples, FL
We have had this Refrigerator since Jan 2017. Noisy from day one! I spent lots of time researching different manufacturers not only for fridge but dishwasher, oven and microwave. I decided upon this fridge based off reviews I read and consumer reports. I had a tech look at fridge twice, once to determine why it was noisy and ice was accumulating around the ice maker seal and on front drawer in freezer. The tech made me feel as if I was crazy and the noise was natural. He said women are more sensitive to noise. I proceeded to tell him that I had not mentioned this to my husband because of the amount of time I spent researching however upon watching TV he asks, what is that noise, is that the new fridge? I explained to the tech that the meat drawer kept coming off the track and he made it seem like it was normal. I had to reproduce this to show him this is not normal for me to keep placing the tray back into place. He did some adjusting and said it was fine, worked for a few days but still comes off track to date. Tech determines that the icemaker door is warped and needs to replace, this is why ice is accumulating around door. Tech returns for second service to replace icemaker door and the machine is even louder but all he does it replace the door. The ice is accumulating around the icemaker door again to the point that it's hard to open. Everyone that visits notices the noise level of the fridge so apparently it's not normal. Luckily the extended warranty was purchased.
