Do not buy, unsafe, horrible design.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] To preface, I would point out that due to the layout of our kitchen, the range I am writing about is the third Jenn-Air downdraft range we have had over the last thirty-eight years. The current one is not only an abomination in design, it is outright unsafe. We will redesign our kitchen before we buy another Jenn-Air.
Addressing the safety issues first:
The gas regulator is located in the lower rear of the range. During installation when the range is pushed back in its final position, there is no way to perform a 'bubble test' to check for gas leaks. Your previous models located the regulator in the lower right front, easily accessible behind the lower access panel. After installation of this range, I had to overnight a gas emissions meter with an extendable wand before I felt comfortable that there was not a leak.
On the same subject, the top mounted gas burner controls are a tragedy waiting to happen. Whose logic was it to design a gas knob that you not only increase the gas flow but shut it off by turning clockwise? This with the fact that it takes almost zero effort to move the knob from off to emitting gas with no ignition, has created a huge safety risk. In the seven months since the range has been in operation, there have been two occasions where our house has begun to fill with gas because one of the knobs was inadvertently moved while cleaning. I have ordered an always-on natural gas detector that will be mounted in our kitchen to hopefully avoid an untimely death. If we had children in the house, the range would be on the way to the dump. I will be referring this design feature to my state consumer protection agency as someone is going to get killed, and hopefully this will lead to a recall or at least encourage you to fix this in future versions.
Design:
Mirror chrome finish - let's design something that is constantly subject to spills and splatters and clad it in a mirror finish that is impossible to keep looking clean. Every meal requires a complete strip down of the top grates to adequately clean up.
Top mounted controls - I have partially addressed this above as a safety issue, but what really makes this unworkable is the electronic control panel, (ECP), and the form-over-function gasknobs. While wiping up as one does while cooking, the sensitivity of the ECP causes it to sound like a pinball machine as it resets the baking temperature, turns on the downdraft and demands you set a timer. It is a lesson in frustration with every use. As to the knob design. Unless you are standing directly over the knob you have no reference to what the gas flow is based on the position of the knob because you can't see the knob position, it's just some shiny circular disk.
This is just a partial list of the failings of this appliance. We haven't tried the self-cleaning feature yet - we can only imagine what awaits us.
Seriously though, I cannot think of anything that I have encountered that has been so poorly designed. You should be ashamed, but beyond that you need to address the obvious safety issues with this appliance. Someone is going to die.

Good and bad

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my third Jenn Air downdraft stove. Not by choice, but due to size and exhaust limitations of my small kitchen. They are always making "improvements", but there are trade offs. Improvements: Four burners with full flame control from high to simmer instead of two burners set for grilling inside with no ability to simmer and terrible flame coverage for grilling (useless practically speaking). Therefore, I used to cook on one large burner and sometimes on one small burner for simmer. A problem with the new model is the exhaust fan is loud on low and high and it doesn't draw enough smoke out of the house. Cooking smells and smoke will fill the air and linger every time one tries to cook without turning on the fan (it doesn't turn on automatically). Haven't tried the new oven cleaning method. It looks questionable and other reviewers who have used that feature are not pleased. The stove is handsome looking. I've only had it six days.
Pros: Attractive Design, Compact, Quality Construction
Cons: Difficult To Clean, Hard To Use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good and Bad

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am limited to a downdraft stove because of the space and installation. So, this is my third JennAir. Good: this model has gotten rid of the grill whose burners were of no value because they didn't grill well and when used as burners you couldn't get a medium or simmer setting, only high. So I basically used only two burners, mostly one. Bad: the fan has two settings: high and low. Both are very loud. You must turn either one on manually, no automatic. AND you must have one on because cooking on the stove top creates a lot of smoke and food smells in the house. I haven't tried the oven cleaning yet. The reviews are not good. It's a new water treatment.
Pros: Attractive Design, Compact, Quality Construction
Cons: Hard To Use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Honest review

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have been using this Duel fuel downdraft for 6 months now. The look of the unit is beautiful, however the bottom sheet metal shows every tiny ding. It arrived with a dent already in it and is very flimsy. Since this is fuel fuel the oven take about 15 mins to get to 350, and another 15 to get to 450. So I have to plan to turn on my oven 30 mins before I need it. The cooktop has the biggest burners in the front, so when I put a huge pot on the front, I can reach the small in the back, basically making this a 2 burner stove top. When you turn on the downdraft it pulls the flame towards the center, so your pan will only have flame on one side. Overall, it’s a nice range, however, I don’t think I would recommend.
Pros: Attractive Design, Easy To Use
Cons: Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
