I received a SodaStream carbonator as an Xmas gift. Since it came with only two 1L bottles, I went to a local retailer and purchased some additional bottles (including these). As others have mentioned the 1/2L bottles are a much more convenient size for personal use than the larger bottles. The first time I used one of them my 8 year old tried to unscrew the top by holding the top and bottom. The bottom cap broke off. It was only secured by a small dab of what looked like hot-melt glue. So that bottle is almost useless now since it won't stand up. Then I tried to wash them in my dishwasher. I read the warning against using water hotter than 120F so I made sure my water heater's output was lower than that and I did NOT use the sterilizer cycle on my Bosch dishwasher. Both bottles were severely warped after the wash. Other plastic cups (free ones from Dickie's BBQ and other local restaurants) weren't damaged at all. Even at 120F that isn't hot enough to kill pathogenic bacteria and virus's. So, how do you clean these things? I guess you'd need some chemical cleaner like bleach. Yum... I guess I'll put my new SodaStream in the back of the closet next to my fondue set.

I love the smaller bottles! They are so much easier to hold than the 1 liter. They are perfect for younger children who want a fizzy water too.

There was a breach between the bottle and the bottom cup foot, which allowed a black substance to appear. Pictures were sent and replacements were dispatch within 24 hours. Great timely customer service!
