I've owned multiple mobile phones, including various smartphones, but this is my first Samsung device. And all I can say is "Wow!" I don't usually spend my time writing product reviews, but I just had to make this exception for the S3. The more I use it, the more impressed I am. The performance alone is worth the money spent. Throw in a generous battery that lasts the whole day, and you've got a winning combination. But it doesn't stop there! Touchwiz is slowly growing on me and the display is simply gorgeous! I just purchased a set of TecTiles and can't wait to start using them. I also own a Samsung SmartTV, so I'm excited to learn how my new S3 can integrate with that. If I had to name one thing which needed improvement, it would have to be the overall width of the device. My small hands are to blame here as one-handed operation is difficult. But it's a trade-off I'm willing to make for this beast of a phone! Excellent job Samsung!! Keep up the good work!!!
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight, 2gb ram, nfc, smooth performance
Cons: too wide

One thing that I noticed was that the phone puts it's contents in the extsdcard folder. You need to know this becuase if you put your card in from an old phone your data will be in mnt/sdcard. But, not on the S3 it is going to look into mnt/extcard. It will make a DCIM folder for photos and such, If you have say, your own ringtones, you have to make a ringtone folder in that folder and put your tones in there. When you go into settings/sound/ringtones, the phone will see them and let you pick them. Also astro is ok but it defaults to mnt/sdcard and won't see you files. If you use the "My Files" that comes with the phone, it looks at the extsdcard and it will see all of your files.
I made a Music, Documents, DCIM, Videos, folders and it sees those just fine. Also love the ...Settings/Security/Screen lock/Face unlock feature, ....when completed, turn on your phone it sees your face and unlocks! Cool!
lots to learn but very cool and fast.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: could be easily dropped

I knew when I went to purchase this phone, it had the droid 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich... And that was enough, but, I only knew about some of the really cool features! So far, this thing is amazing! The smart movement features, as well as s-beam, make this the EASIEST phone to share files with friends by far!!!
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
I would recommend this to a friend!

Beautiful ... Functional

This is a beautiful phone. The display is top quality. Love the fact that it is so thin and light. As expected there is a slight learning curve from my previous Samsung (Fascinate), but everything about the phone has been seamless. A totally exciting and functional phone. Best yet!!

WOW - then meh...

I am replacing my previous android phone with the Galaxy S III. I absolutely love the physical design of the new Galaxy. The pebble blue color is understated and there's a nice mix of muted sheen and brushed metal. The brushed look behind the glass is especially impressive when it catches the light. The phone body is quite large, but thin enough to still hold easily and to fit comfortably in a shirt pocket. The phone is also lighter. Special kudos go to Samsung for managing to package a removable battery in the device.
Performance is astounding compared to what I knew, both in responsiveness of the phone/user interface and with the 4G network. One major plus: the Galaxy S III correctly works with wifi networks secured with WPA2/AES. Not all phones do. The AMOLED display is much more crisp than the LCD on my old phone. One minor quabble, though: when the auto-brightness is engaged, the screen is consistently "just a little too dim" for my taste. Ideally, auto-brightness would still allow the user to vary the base brightness and then adjust that base according to ambient conditions.
So what's the "meh..."? First, why did my carrier choose to launch WITHOUT global/GSM roaming capability? The hardware is capable - it uses the same system-on-a-chip processor as the 4G phones on which my carrier launched this capability earlier this month. Even the FCC filing for the S III mentions GSM. I am truly disappointed Samsung would allow a carrier (you can guess who) to send such a capable phone to market with one hand tied behind its back.
TAnother head scratcher: even my 2 year old android 2.3 phone would populate Facebook pictures into the contact list. Not so, this new Galaxy S III. Skype pictures, yes. Exchange, yes. Not Facebook. meh...
The phone has MAJOR problems interacting with ubuntu/debian based Linux systems. When the USB is plugged in, the phone is recognized as a media player but proceeds to CRASH every media app you might use to move music to/from the device (I tried Banshee and Clementine; nearly all media apps use the same MTP software stack.) Maybe it works OK with "other OS" Media Player but I have no way (or desire) to find out. Moreover, each time it is plugged in, it is rediscovered as a new device and the system cannot see what files are already present on the external SD card. It took me hours to resync my music collection. Samsung, if you're listening, try to have at least one Ubuntu user in your beta-test pool. Your biggest smartphone competitor wins this battle.
Finally, the overall appearance is, well, disjointed. My old android phone's UI had a consistent look and feel and color scheme (even though its interface was a little" blurry".) The color scheme here (especially the Calendar and phone colors) look like they were pulled from a grade-schooler's paintbox. Samsung isn't alone in this: other ICS interfaces have similar drawbacks. I hate to say it, but Redmond's latest phone OS presents a prettier face these days. The entire theme/UI calls out for a refresh.
I have not yet tried some of the gee-whiz new features for file sharing, etc., so I cannot comment on them, yet.
In summary, the Galaxy S III is beautiful piece of hardware. It's fast, elegant, good looking and turns heads when people see it. Hopefully, Samsung will address the details before the "next big thing" from their biggest competitor comes to market.
Pros: Bright display, beautiful design, replaceable battery
Cons: color scheme disjointed, where are my facebook contact pix?
