My Galaxy S3 was an upgrade from a Droid X2. My first complaint about the Galaxy is the design. The case makes it hard to grasp. The rounded narrow edge of the device does not ensure a solid grip. One is prone to drop the phone, risking damage. This same poor design also sports a volume control that seems to be deliberately placed in such a way that one's thumb will inadvertently press it when holding the phone. (The old X2 had the controls better placed away from the thumb). Similarly, the controls at the bottom of the screen are too easy to hit accidentally. Countless times I've handed the phone to someone with information for them to view, only to have t all wiped away because they inadvertently touched a portion of the screen (since the phone case is so difficult to grasp). My second complaint is that many features that had been standard with the old phone are now add-ons. For example, when attached to a car mount, my old phone automatically went into car mode, showing a modified screen in landscape designed for easier use when driving. No such thing with the Galaxy S3. While I found a free car mode app, I was told that to have the app launch automatically would require my purchasing a TecTile. Seems the cleaver boys at Samsung figured out how to gouge for a little extra money. (By the way, this is not to be confused with Samsung's Driving mode, which is supposed to announce incoming emails and texts, but it doesn't seem to work too well either, at least according to the countless comments about it). While on the subject of car mode, it is so aggravating that the home screen doesn't rotate to landscape. Equally annoying is the fact that the screen turns off while attached to the car charger even when set to stay illuminated.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am so glad that I purchased this device. My best friend got it first and she came over to my house and it was love at first sight. I played around with it and I must say, great job Samsung. I love the multi screen, the large display, s beam and many other features. The only thing I don't like about it is the volume. The ring volume is low and I wish it had the watch on app like the S4.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, great features
Cons: ring volume is low
I would recommend this to a friend!

I haven't had too much experience with smart phones so I'm not sure how much my opinion matters to people. It is a good phone and does what it's supposed to do. I would like it to have the ability to increase the volume more than it does now. Also I feel the phone part of the unit is a bit difficult to get used to and could be more friendly. What happened to "the phone rings and you answer it". Having to swipe the screen to answer a call instead of a button to push is difficult and more so when the sun is shining off the screen.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Durable, good camera
Cons: volume not good, phone sometimes difficult to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

First Smart Phone

For years, I rejected the thought of a smart phone mostly because I'm stubborn. But when my dumb phone started fading in and out of calls, I caved and got this phone. I don't know how I ever survived without it. Everything I always wanted one device to do, it does. I treat it like a mini computer and of course, a phone. My calls are crisp and don't blank out every other word the other person is saying. I can sync up files and calenders from work and home. I can play games, read books, check email, take great photos. I can't believe I was so stubborn for so long. I thought it would be too big when I first got it, but for all that it does, I do appreciate the size for readablility. It met my meager expectations and blew them out of the water.
I was very excited to get this phone. Within a month I had to exchange it because the voice option did not work and I got a terrible connection. I have had the new replacement phone for over 3 months now. The connection is spotty and the phone keeps dropping my calls. I have been in the Verizon store and on the phone with tech. support so many times, I stopped counting! My old Droid phone was so much more dependable even though it was 3G.... So sad... I live in LA and can't get more than 2-3 bars although I am told there are over 13 towers near me! No obstructions or tall buildings either.. And for those who would say it is an app. I must have downloaded, that isn't the problem either. I did not load anything in the beginning just to see if that was it. I wish I kept my old phone even though the camera was definitely inferior. At least my calls wouldn't keep dropping!! Verizon says there is nothing wrong on their end, so I am stuck. Planned to get one for my daughter. Waited for the Galaxy 4, but decided to pass and go back to LG. Too bad.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, great camera
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, too many dropped calls, cannot get clear connection
