We purchased this printer to replace an older (but still functioning) Brother printer. It was easy to setup, and had it up in running quickly. We really like the size as it seems to be more heavy duty than smaller models. The new ink management, and the number of pages you can print is a real bonus. Lastly, the replacement cartridges are really affordable as well.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I am happy with this machine. I searched for weeks online for the best combination of low cost of operation and reliability. I believe I found it. I do most of my printing in draft mode, black only (with only infrequent use of color). This runs CHEAP! Even draft mode is pretty sharp (and "best" mode looks like the best HP laser). The only downsides I've noticed so far: 1) the paper pickup sometimes sends through blank sheets (partly due to going so fast in draft mode); 2) The order of pages can get screwed up in the holding bin (solved by readjusting the holding tray); 3) I've had odd results with spot use of color (yet to be solved; I'm sure I can fix this with a little more tweaking). 4) Scanning: does a fine job (just must deactivate my Norton Internet Security firewall to allow the machine to feed through the to the PC; a mere annoyance). For a low-priced inkjet MFC, this is a heavy duty unit & an amazing machine.

THIS IS THE FIRST BROTHER I EVER PURCHASED. MOST OF THE OTHERS WERE "HP" THEN I WAS TIRED OF THE ISSUES WITH "HP" AND PURCHASED A "EPSON" IT WAS REPLACED TWICE IN ONE YEAR. THE EXTENDED WARRANTEE PAID FOR A NEW ONE AND I PURCHASED THIS BROTHER. I HAVE HAD IT FOR 3 MONTHS AND IT HAS WORKED FLAWLESSLY. SETUP WENT SMOOTH AND WAS EASY. I AM VERY HAPPY.

Should have bought years ago

This printer was so easy to set up and integrate to existing office network. I am a bit old school or just older and wasn't entirely ready to go wireless and this gave simple option for both. Not to mention, price was great.

Fairly quiet, produces clear, smudge free copies. Problematic using paper other than letter size. Weird error messages take time to figure out, even with online help.

Good print, but real drawbacks

The printer produces good quality output and it does it relatively quickly. If that is all you want, I think this is a good choice. If, on the other hand, you want to print double-sided or checks on pre-printed checks, you may want to think again. It jams virtually every time that I try to print double-sided, and it macerates the checks. Because clearing the machine is troublesome in the location my printer is located, I simply avoid doing that. But hand-writing checks is not my favorite pastime, so when this machine goes over the hill (I have had it for just a few months and bought it as a replacement for an HP which had its own issues) I am not sure what I will do.

When trying to print a business card… 1. The printer did not have a select for thick paper just photo paper. 2. The business card paper got jammed and the second one came out smeared. Then the third one was printed so faint that you could not read it. The printer does not do double sided scan (which is not mention on the box) You must manually place on the scanner. The sign above the printer in the store said do not buy ink for 2 years, made for small business, Ha… I have used over half of the ink and I bought in Dec 5 2016 and my business is very small. Hence… disappoint in the printer. I should mention one good thing… it is easy to set up

Slow to start printing

I guess I should have read the reviews before buying this printer. I have always been satisfied with Brother printers, but this machine isn't very good. It takes a long time to print the first page and I'm not able to easily change from one tray to another. I have tried several suggested fixes and still haven't resolved the speed issue.
