This is GREAT

I recently bought the big boy reverse flow offset smoker and am already pleased. I own a very similar (not reverse flow) offset smoker that I have used for 25 years. I wanted a smoker for our second home on the Chesapeake Bay and had been looking at various manufacturers and models to include Traeger smokers and other electric smokers. After all the review work, I decided I just wanted to burn wood and smoke meat. I did not need wifi to check the temp while I'm out on the dock or at the grocery store. I did not need electricity, temp probe, or a wood chip auger. All I wanted was wood fire, smoke, and meat....and if I wanted to .......500 degrees to roast oysters!!! (not happening with a Traeger)
Assembly was easy though a second person would have been helpful. This is a heavy duty smoker. The wheels must weigh close to 5 pounds each. After assembly, I followed the directions for seasoning the inside. This is a must do!! After two Boston Butts, a few whole chickens, and some nice smoked blue fish.....I could not be more pleased than "a bird with a French fry" . I am equally impressed the temp gauge and with how well the dampers and fire box allows me to keep the temp at a smoking level vs bbq vs grilling. Overall, very pleased. Of course these will rust....but buy a cover for those who complain.
If you are a guy who just likes the experience of burning wood, adjusting dampers, and smoking meat....this is the smoker/grill for you!!!

I got this grill.... And I thought the quality was good until I took it out of the box.. missing first two damper plates and got double the second two I thought this was supposed to be a reverse flow but what a joke! This is still an offset grill so I'm taking things into my own hands and fix it the way it should be. Also all of the spot welds will not hold up very poor! The lid is 1/8" out of square, doesn't shut properly, and trim for lid is not straight, poor weld's

I’ve seen better

I’ve had this smoker just under a year now. I was holding off to give it a shot before doing my review. If you’re new and learning to smoke, it’s ok, just prepared to extend your cook.
Mine did not hold temps well; I had to purchase a thermal blanket to hold my temp so I wouldn’t have to go through so much fuel and around the seams, it’s burnt my thermal blanket. I have to use a fan for the firebox to push to heat into the cooking chamber. If I didn’t use the fan, the cook chamber would not get equal heat throughout. The metal is only about 1/16 inches thick and allows your outside temperature to directly impact a cook because the metal would get cold and drop your internal temps drastically. The firebox cannot handle to temps needed to keep the cook chamber at temp. The paint chipped, bubbled and flaked off after the first cook. I had to sand the box 3 times within the year, even using high temp spray paint it still flakes off easily. The legs on my smoker do not like being moved often so if you purchase it, plan to park it and leave it. Moving it in and out of my garage it flexed the legs to where the metal wheels are now caulk eyed. I also had to drill a hole for the legs, the plug, and the chimney so the bolts could actually hold things in place, otherwise you’ll strip the bolts getting it tight so they don’t move.
Again, for a new person learning an offset, it’s not bad but there is better out there for a little more money. I’ve had mine just under a year and I’m already looking at other smokers.

Great smoker for the money

I've had this now for a month and am very pleased. I had the longhorn combo unit before but now am building a new house with an outdoor kitchen. I decided I wanted a larger smoker and a separate grill for convenience. I've used this smoker twice since I bought it, once for a brisket, and once for prime rib, and got great results both times. I did some modifications when I assembled is, welded the legs to the barrel, used high temp both to assemble and install the firebox, etc. Am quite happy. To do a beter unit you'd have to pay 3 or 4 times the price.

Bought mine last year, cooked over a hundred butts since then, and I am in love with it. Best reverse flow out there, planning on getting another one.

That thing is so janky !!!

So, for Father’s Day my wife got me the Oklahoma Joe Reverse Flow Longhorn offset smoker. Awesome right ? Well, that thing is so janky I am so disappointed. The fire box does not seat straight but I tilted downwards, so it looks clunky. When I seasoned it as per instruction, the paint from the fire box cracked and came off both on the top and the bottom, even though it was not a big fire and I used the fire box. Also, that thing leaks smoke from all over the place even after I installed the gasket seal as instructed. Finally, the vent in the side does not stay open when it’s hot so I have to make it stay open with a stick. Are you serious !!!??? This is supposed to be your top of the line item

I bought it last weekend. A wheel is on crooked, the paint is already coming off the firebox, and the intake baffle will not stay open. I had to wedge it with a rock on its first cook. I emailed the company and have heard nothing.
