After a month with the Gear S3 Frontier
on March 14, 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My first impression with the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier was a bit frustrating, trying for days to turn off all of the beeps and buzzes. Once I got those settings out of the way, the watch really started to show it's talents.
I took the watch on a three day trip to the 10th Mountain Division Huts in Colorado and it performed amazing. The battery was still at 40% after three days, turning it off only at night when I slept. The altimeter was off by 600ft to start, but once calibrated it stayed accurate for the entire trip. The baremoter was also nice to predict storms coming in while out skiing.
The music player is great and I can plug my earphones in and stash my phone in my backpack. Selecting music, fast forward, volume is all available on the watch. This is probably my favorite feature.
Turn the dial and you see the weather, turn again for calendar, google hangouts, missed calls, emails, texts . . . The google maps display is do-able but the map seems strange to me still at that size. The heart rate montor, calorie counter and step tracker provided good data and provided a history of how hard I was excercising.
The watch band is a standard size with pins so you can purchase an absolutely massive variety of watch bands for it. I'm looking to swap in a stainless steel band in the near future.
Overall, I really like the Gear S3 Frontier.
Pros: long battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

Definite Upgrade

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've owned the Gear S2 for years and loved it. So I wasn't sure if I needed to upgrade to the S3. But boy am I glad I did! It seems to be almost the same watch mechanically. With most of the same functions, which is great. But the Larger size and weight gives it a much more luxurious look and feel. I actually love everything about it including charging it. I can spend hours trying out new features and searching for new watch faces. Which makes it always feel brand new to me. I proudly wear it daily and constantly field questions about it. My favorite features are the email and text notifications. Also the find my phone feature (which I use a lot!), and the ability to control the music player. There are many other features that I love but the brightness and clarity of the screen blows me away every time I look at it. I'm very happy with this watch and have already purchase a second one in the Classic design. To me this is the best smart watch on the market. Thanks Samsung!
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Durable, Built-in speakers
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love this watch!

I have been wearing the Gear S3 Frontier now as my daily driver for nearly 4 weeks. I wear it day and night, as I love to see the sleep data collected by the watch.
First I’ll put to rest a concern that I had before I got the S3. I have absolutely no complaints about the size! I love the little bigger display and the thickness is not even noticeable.
The Gear S3 battery is fantastic. I charge daily, in the morning while I get ready for the day and typically it has around 40% when I return it to the charger the following morning. This is with my using the always on display, which I really like.
Another great feature of the S3 is the capability to make and receive calls from the watch using just a Bluetooth connection to my phone. This is very convenient and works very well in any situation where a speaker phone call is appropriate. The speaker also gives the capability to play music from your phone and even has a Spotify app for the watch.
One of my absolute favorite things about the Gear S3 is Samsung Pay. The S3 has NFC and MST which allows you to use it at nearly ALL card swipers. No other watch on the market has this capability. I can use my S3 to pay at virtually any retailer without pulling out my wallet or my phone.
Some of my favorite apps are the Messaging, Calendar, Weather, Alarm, Timer, Stopwatch, Voice Memo, Find My Phone, Tip Estimate, Phone, S Health, Gallery, Spotify, Alti-Barometer, Rubikcube, Maps and of course my all-time favorite, Samsung Pay.
I love getting text messages on my watch. It is much more convenient to quickly check my wrist than to pull my phone out of my pocket. It is much more subtle also, when that matters.
I use the alarm functionality on my phone and love that I can dismiss or snooze the alarm from my watch which for me is very convenient because I wear the watch to bed.
I love being able to see my appointment schedule and receive notifications on the watch.
The S Voice actually performs very well at composing text messages and reply to texts.
The S3 uses any 22mm band on the market, which increases your options exponentially. I am currently using a black metal link band I absolutely love.
The larger screen and bezel is such an intuitive way to interact with the watch. The S3 stepped it up with a notched bezel that looks better than past versions, is much easier to grip, and the engagement of the bezel feels crisp.
I absolutely love this watch, and as of right now can’t think of anything I would change!
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Lightweight, Built-in speakers
I would recommend this to a friend!

Its a great watch to use with a Samsung S6 Edge. Tis a big upgrade from my gear 2. Tho I miss the camera and iR feature of my Gear2.
Pros: Smooth OS. Bezzle is a great for UI interation. Stylish. Durable and easy to use. Speacker, Mic, WiFi and GPS Capabilities.
Cons: Not enough app support like android wear. Needs a bezzle lock feature for at night for sleeping. A little bigger than My Gear 2.
All in all a pretty good watch from Samsung.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Built-in speakers
Cons: not enough apps, needs a bezzle lock feature for sleep and work.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Useful features with small flaws

Nice look but with limited widgets and apps. All basic features are useful. However, there is very limited Samsung apps. Gear S3 needs more apps that actually functions smooth enough to accompany its hardware. The apps that are rated best are only rated the best because they are the only apps available that actually works to some level.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Built-in speakers
Cons: occasional slow response, lack of apps, software not meeting expectation
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great watch!

This is my second Samsung watch, I just upgraded from a Gear S2 to the new Gear S3 and I love it!

I liked the S2 but I thought it was too small, now things have changed the Gear S3 is way bigger, not too big, but just right. It has a nicer more complete look and finishes and it looks better in person than in the pictures.

The display is amazing, bright and sharp! The apps and widgets are about the same of those in the Gear S 2
.
So far I have been wearing the watch for more than 16 hours and the battery is still at 54%....even though I have the brightness at 8, the sound at 6 , and I have the display set on: "Always on", with the new faces that support it , and it's great because it looks like a real watch .
I recommend getting a screen protector, just in case, I put one on and you can't tell is there.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Durable
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Samsung/Tizen watch
on April 19, 2017

I've owned the gear, gear S, gear S2, and now the frontier. This is certainly the best looking, best fit I've had out of the bunch. The screen looks great, and I love the sensors. The Samsung Health app has only gotten better, although this watch thinks that my motorcycle is a bike, so it thinks I'm working out when I go for a ride. I do like the positive reinforcement that my motorcycle ride was a great ride though...
The Tizen app market is mediocre still. But I don't know how much I need on my watch outside of the preinstalled samsung apps. There is room for improvement, but I'd certainly rate this the best watch on the market right now.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Lightweight
Cons: tizen market
I would recommend this to a friend!

Awesome except for the Apps
on April 19, 2017

Everything about this phone is awesome, except the apps.
First, LTE - - - true mobile watch calling - - - I leave my mobile phone at home.
Second, Samsung Pay - - - countless times cashiers are amazed at me using my watch with the old payment terminals.
Third, Fitness Tracker - - - love the auto-detect; pairs well with Samsung Health.
But alas, apart from basic function apps (alarm, timer, clock) - the Apps are junk. Yelp doesn't connect with the GPS app. Facebook/Instagram don't have a native app. The message app has to be used with Samsung messenger. I could think of tons of useful apps that would be awesome on the Gear with a native app: Airlines, Rental Cars, Hotels, Evernote, WhatsApp, etc. Certainly all the functionality in a mobile phone has to be in a wearable. But you must have standalone apps, that are highly useful if you are going to offer LTE. Even just pairing with Bluetooth the app selection is horrible.
It is a wait & see for now ... if Google Wear 2.0+ ends up with the better apps within a year or so, even with the benefit of Samsung Pay, I'll probably switch to Google watches.
But I'm rooting for ya Sammie!
Pros: Bright display, Durable, samsung pay, lte
Cons: very few good apps, most apps don't standalone, no camera
I would recommend this to a friend!
