S3 Frontier... Best Smartwatch I have used... Huge Upgrade from past non Tizen smart watches

I have had this for a couple of weeks and it has far and away exceeded my expectations. Coming from a Non Tizen smart watch it is amazing that I can now only charge this every 2 to 3 days and use the Sleep tracking on the Samsung. this device has so many great features from being able to answer a call on your wrist without taking your phone out... to switching a call from your wrist to your Bluetooth headset. Samsung Health is a great tool to keep you on track and give you info on your health. the integration with the phone and it's skill at providing the notifications I need is amazing. everyone thinks I am wearing a regular watch then they see it do more and they are amazed. This is a very useful tool and what I hoped to get when I bought my previous smart watch. This was a good choice. only thing I would change would be to make it Water resistant to 50 meters and this would be perfect. it is good that it has water resistance of 5 meters but that doesn't allow you to wear your watch when your swimming. maybe that is coming in the future generations. Charging is fast and easy with the Qi charger provided... if your on the fence and you can swing it you will not be disappointed.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Built-in speakers
Cons: can't swim with it but all other features amazing
I would recommend this to a friend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been on the smartwatch bandwagon for a few years. This watch is replacing a Moto360 Android Wear watch. I have had the watch in daily use for 9 days now... Here are my impressions and why I am "WOWed" by it.
#1 - Important to me - It functions well as a watch (telling time). The display is clear in all conditions. I can glance at my wrist and see what time it is. I have my watch set with always-on for this reason, and it just works (ALL day - See battery section).
#2 - Technology - Samsung has packed a load of tech and features in this watch. Initially I was skeptical of moving from the open Android Wear platform to the proprietary Tizen platform, but I have to say again everything works great. I like the user interface, and the combination of touchscreen, rotating bezel, and buttons feels 'just right' for interacting with the user interface. The UI itself is intuitive enough that it took almost no time to get used to it.
#2a - Setup - I have a Galaxy S7edge - The watch setup with my phone was practically automatic and beyond easy. My phone recognized the watch without me doing anything and prompted me through a few steps of setup and I was done in a couple of minutes.
#3 - Battery - Not sure how they did it, but this is the first smartwatch I have seen where battery life was not an issue. For the first few days, I used it in default configuration (always-on was turned off) after an active 16-18 hour day there was still 35-70% battery left - WOW. When I turned on the always-on feature I expected the battery to tank, but to my surprise, I still have 50+% battery after a long day! Side note: Samsung did a good job on the wireless charger as well - I particularly like the magnetic feature, as it keeps me from knocking the watch off of the dock/out of place and interrupting my overnight charging on my bedside table!
#4 - Samsung Pay - On a watch! (Dislike that I have to set cards up separately for phone and watch.
So far I am very impressed!
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Built-in speakers, battery life

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Samsung Gear S3 is by far one of the most advanced and classy looking smart watches out there. This smart watch pretty much has everything and with an option for 4G LTE I can’t imagine much more being offered. I have had the Samsung Gear S2 Classic and the Samsung Gear Fit2. I really like the “normal” watch style of the S line, but both watches just didn’t meet my expectations. Now that I have the Gear S3 Frontier, I can say that they have finally hit everything I was looking for.
Just starting off as a watch, it is a bit big and may be for some, but looks like a typical rugged style watch. The watch faces on it are amazing and some go as far as to mimic the light reflection as if they had a real reflective background. The clarity and finite details even give some of them a 3D appearance. From analog to digital with individual stylizations, there are so many watch face styles that you could have a different one every day if you choose to. There is also an “always on” feature that prevents you from having to flick your wrist to see the time, a complaint I had with the S2, however, it reduces time between charges significantly. With the band being interchangeable with any 22-mm band, the design choices are limitless.
As a fitness tracker, the Gear S3 has everything you expect, plus more. It tracks steps, floors climbed and automatic heart rate tracking with decent accuracy. It will pick up exercise events automatically if continued for at least 10 minutes, however, if you want full GPS tracking you will need to manually start the exercise event. When manually started and using S-Health you get added results, such as highest and lowest elevation for total ascent/descent using the included altimeter, and average/max heart rate. You also get a Google map display of your event which can be exported to a GPX file. The Gear S3 can keep track of all of this information without the phone being present during the workout. As an added bonus, the watch has internal storage so you can play music directly from the watch, through the built in speaker or Bluetooth headphones, or control the music on your phone.
For smart watch capability you get the typical notifications and alerts from your phone, which you can change in the Samsung Gear app. You can reply and send text messages by using standard preset short replies, emoticons, by writing text by hand, using an old style alphanumeric keypad, or use the microphone to record a message or use speech-to-text. Don’t want to text? You can answer and place calls directly from the watch, with surprising clarity. You can use your contacts or a keypad to enter a fresh number without ever pulling out your phone.
As for controlling the watch, I still love the rotating bezel compared to some other smart watches using the small crown. My fingers feel like I’m trying to use two sausages to pick up a pin when messing with small dials and such. Sometimes even using the screen is cumbersome as my finger can cover half the screen or a slight bump leads to clicking on a wrong reply.
My favorite feature with the watch has been the amazement that I get from people when I use my watch with Samsung Pay to make a payment. It typically starts out with their hand out awaiting a credit card. Then I tell them I’m going to pay using my watch and their response is usually “Oh our system is old, we don’t do that yet” as they hear the beep of the transaction being completed. That is when the questions start to kick in, even from people behind me in line. Besides ATM machines and gas pumps, it has worked on pretty much everything else. If at first it does not succeed, have them change the transaction from credit to debit or vice versa. You can even make up to four transactions without your phone being nearby, making this even better when out on a workout.
To wrap up with a few odds and ends, I like how the bezel is above the glass. I have only had mine a few weeks and already bumped it against several hard objects. There are marks on the bezel, but nothing with the glass. I just bought some lens covers to be sure that this will not be an issue. The default watch band is rubber, therefore it stretches and at times feels like it is pinching my arm, as a rubber band would. If I loosen it too much, because I use Samsung Pay, the screen will lock and requires a 4 digit pin to be entered. A feature I am grateful for, but a bit of an annoyance when I find it locked when a notification comes in, so I keep the watch tight. The battery life has lasted on average 3 days, with the “Always On” feature turned off. I like to wear mine at night as well, to provide sleep tracking, so I charge it during times of inactivity, like at my work desk or in the evening while watching TV, and it is fully charged in about 2 and a half hours. The altimeter and barometer are an interesting feature, and I am sure for some it will prove useful, but so far all I have noticed is that I have to recalibrate the altimeter every few days as it has been over 600ft off after a few days and the weather has not been severe enough to really change the barometer reading.
In conclusion, I have thoroughly enjoyed my Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and look forward to using it more as the season of outdoor activities starts to roll in. With so much to offer in a typical elegant looking watch, it is hard to believe what they will improve on it anytime soon. If you are looking to take the step into the world of using a smart watch, but don’t want a device that looks like a small phone on your wrist, and provides more features than any other watch, this is the one for you. If you are looking for an upgrade from any other smart watch, you don’t have to look any further.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Built-in speakers, interchangeable wristbands, built-in microphone, built-in gps
Cons: pinching from wristband, accuracy of altimeter

Is S3 The Magic Number?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While the Gear S wasn’t Samsung’s first smartwatch, it was the first to bear the ‘S’ moniker, indicating Samsung had learnt enough from their Gear/2/2 Neo/X/Live/Fit watches to launch a truly flagship line. So the third version of a line fit to bear the ‘S’ name? This should be special.
The key evolution with the S3 is the divergence of style. The Frontier and Classic are two different styles, released to broaden the watch’s appeal. The rotating bezel returns is a superb control method that absolutely complements the touch screen.
While the specifications don’t stray too far from the standards set with the S2, it’s unsurprising to see the RAM bumped up (512 to 768MB), as well as the battery (250 to 380 mAh). Fans will be pleased to see NFC and waterproofing return, while GPS is added as standard.
For running and hiking, the Gear S3 is an asset, providing superb levels of detail with audible updates as you move. For daily use, checking texts or emails is simple, while answering your phone from your wrist is (surprisingly) useful.
My only criticism is that I’ve been looking at this from the perspective of a thick-wristed male; and while the Gear S3 comes with a smaller band for those with thinner wrists, I can’t help but feel my fiance couldn’t wear this and look normal. I know boyfriend sweaters are a thing, but boyfriend watches? I’m not sure.
So is the S3 the moment where the Gear S line has matured? I absolutely believe so. Samsung have released a powerful, fantastic-looking watch that looks great on your wrist whether you’re going for a 3-mile hike or a 3-course meal. It is clear Samsung have an absolute winner on their hands… or should that be wrist?
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Built-in speakers
Cons: too big for thin wrists

The Creme de la Creme of Smartwatches

Take note Tim COOK .This is what a smartwatch looks like in masculinity not a feminine Apple Watch. When Samsung hooked up with Swiss watchmakers, they had a hot number as I have this and the S3 Classic BT. Rolex,Omega,Tag and Jacob watches are classic but smartwatches are the future and pretty soon, they will project holographic UX and ONLY Samsung can bring that.
Thank you TMo and Samsung
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Durable, Inexpensive, Lightweight, Built-in speakers
Cons: none

A sturdy device with lots of style and features to surprise you

A black beast on wrist with cool swinging dial ring to navigate - this watch is a revolutionary device. Specially that the watch is standalone phone by itself even if its not connected to phone! Isn't that cool. Get rid of the phone sometimes is a different experience. The battery is about 2 days if used frequently. All the auto detect fitness features. Power packed S Health app to give you health metrics. You can use youtube in the watch to see videos. It has its own speaker (which is not at all bad for its size!!) and you can connect it to your bluetooth headphones as well! This is probably the most under rated wearable device in the market! It can navigate! It can connect to your home wi-fi!! What else....Screen resolution is good. The dial is masculine though because of its size. The operating system is user friendly (very!). You can EASILY have calls with the watch itself and no need to lift your finger or hand to talk for brief conversations..no need to stuck your wrist in your mouth..I love it in its first week! Will update review as I use it for a month or so and get out of the awe inspiring phase..but being a gadget freak - i can say that with its price - it is truly a device to give a try and see if it makes life easy.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Durable, Inexpensive, Built-in speakers, feature packed - wifi / sim card inbuilt/ data
Cons: big design for girls
I would recommend this to a friend!
