getting to know the maytag wall oven

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's only been in our house for a couple of weeks. Bakes great. I was surprised by the "wind sound" that sometimes occurs during use but is quite prominent after unit is turned off. I timed the "wind" one night and it kept on for 40min. I was sure it was malfunctioning--I read thru the manual and found no mention of this sound. I returned to the dealer and described the issue and was told "all recently manufactured ovens" have that type of fan that runs to cool the unit after being turned off. When I purchased my oven the sales person dwelled on the easy to roll out shelves. I assumed that all the shelves would be that way but it is not so--only one of the shelves is the "ball bearing easy roll-out" shelf.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this to replace a 20 yr. old Maytag wall oven that had electronic touchpad issues. Let me say that anyone who listens to reviews complaining about this Oven should not put any attention to them. This oven DOES NOT make excessive noise. One thing it does make is "wonderfully, evenly baked food!!! The Rapid Pre-heat is great!! It pre-heats to 350 in about 6 minutes!!! My Wife says she has never had an oven that baked so evenly , in every area of the oven. The controls can take a little while to get used to as the sequence of buttons needed for certain functions can be different than ovens past. This should be expected with any advance in technology . We have not used the convection feature yet but are sure it will perform as well as the other programs. THANK YOU MAYTAG!!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This oven is to replace a 24" Kitchenaid (same manufacturer) that was all that would fit in our old house. The oven is easy to use, has a good user interface, and great features.

Nice wall oven with some notable disadvantages

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a tough review to write because the oven is a good one but does lack certain features that are important to me. These are detractions that are not revealed in the manufacturer's literature.
It is a nice looking oven. It has a center rack featuring a full extension pull-out making placing or removing a heavy object such as a turkey so easy and safe.
The bottom of the inside has the baking heating element under the flat bottom making clean up much easier.
The cooling fan is very quiet.
I won't go over the features that the manufactuer talks about since that is readily available.
Let me mention some things that are important to me although maybe not you.
The exterior glass is large and attractive, however, it is so dark you cannot see inside without activating the interior light. While the light is helpful, it still isn't bright enough to see details without opening the oven door.
When I measured the interior temperature at a baking setting of 225, it was 15 degrees low. I cook long and low, so, such a large deviation was significant. I used both a remote instant read thermometer and a separate oven thermometer. As the manufacturer describes, the instant rread thermometer wasn't much help as it responded to the effects of the heating element coming on or shuting off which showed swings in temp. The oven thermometer was much more helpful as it has mass like any food being cooked and registered the average temperature. Fortunately, the oven does provide an easy way to compensate such error.
The over does have an automatic pre-heat function which sounds a chime when the oven supposedly reaches its set temperature. However, the temperature has not reached its actural temperature setting. The difference is very large and could make the difference between cookies that are perfect and those that are under done if the cookie sheet was put into the oven when the chime sounded. I would recommend waiting at least 15 to 30 minutes after the chime sounds before placing the food into the oven.
The control panel allows you to type in the temperature and/or the cooking time. However, there is a sequence that isn't exactly intuitive, so, be careful that you are actually inputting the temperature and not the time or vice versa. I'm sure that after practice, I'll figure out how to do this without the "error" chime sounding.
A really big detraction for me is the inability to set the temperature that I want to use when I want the broil element to do the cooking. I often bake chicken at 350 but I use the broil element so that the skin comes out really crisp with no burning. In spite of the instruction manual saying that this oven allows temperature settings when using Broil setting, the oven allows one to set the temperature only between 450 and 550 degrees which is really useless. My prior Whirlpool oven allowed full temperature control when using the Broil setting. So, had I known this significant disadvantage, I would have NOT purchased this oven.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved the flexibility the installation kit provided. Not a fan of the blower noise. It''s almost too complicated to operate.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this oven 2 weeks before Thanksgiving and had it installed only 3 days before Thanksgiving. We were a little concerned baking a turkey for 14 people Afyer only having the Oven for a few days. The turkey turned out perfect. The juiciest turkey I’ve ever had. This oven is easy to use and I couldn’t be happier with it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have had this oven for a little over a month and are absolutely thrilled. It replaced a 20-year-old Jenn Aire model. Preheats quickly, cooks evenly, and the cool down is very quiet. Looking forward to getting a lot of use out of this oven!
