When I first received the tea kettle, I was a bit unsure and intimidated. I truly could not be happier that I gave it a shot! The stainless steel is very nice, it does take up minimal counter space, and a wonderful recipe book is included. I really enjoy the recipes! I am in disbelief as to how quickly the kettle gets the water up to temperature. Another feature I thoroughly appreciate as a mom is the "keep warm" feature. After the tea has been brewed it keeps it warm for the next hour. It is very easy to clean and maintain, and I would highly recommend this kettle to a tea drinker.
This item was received complimentary to reveiw.

Major tea pot Ungrade

I got this as I love hot tea and I thought it would be great because of the different temperatures that it offers for different types of teas. But it does so much more. It is so easy to make the tea that I'm in the mood for at the right temp so quick. But It also has a boil button beyond the 4 tea temps. I have used this almost as much as the tea buttons. It makes boiling water so fast for making hot chocolate, instant coffee, iced tea and making jello salads. This is replacing the coffee pot on the counter and it looks better.
Let me start with the things I love about this machine: It boils water within just a minute or two, it has multiple settings which allows you to boil to the right temperature (which makes a big difference!), and it keeps the tea warm for an hour.
Now, what I dislike:
The strainer is VERY VERY hard to clean. It's super tall and narrow, so good luck getting all the tea leaves out of the bottom. When you try to rinse it the remnants of leaves just cling to the bottom, and getting in there with a stick-sponge sometimes just spreads the leaves around. Sometimes I will have to spend 5 minutes just trying to get all the leaves out, which I really don't have the time for after every use.
The "pre-set" times for each tea type are not correct. Each needs about 3 minutes added onto them or you will have extremely weak tea. This is easily fixable by setting a custom time, but that means each time I make tea, I have to look up the proper steep time instead of simply being able to press one button.
All in all I am happy with the product, but it is one of only about 2 hot-tea-makers on the market. There isn't a lot of competition.
If anybody has a tip for cleaning the darn strainer (without a dishwasher), let me know!

I was so excited to use my new Mr. Coffee. I purchased it in January and just discovered the metal in the carafe is rusted. So disappointed!

We can assure you that it is very uncommon for the carafe to be rusting. We do stand by our products 100% here at Mr.Coffee and would like to look into this for you. Please call us at 1-800-672-6333, our hours of operation are Monday-Saturday from 9am-6pm, EST. Talk to you soon!
I wanted to like the Tea Maker very much, but the carafe is not submersible and it's just a bit too complicated for me. The extra step of heating, and then timing, made me feel like I was waiting around for the beeps. And I felt certain that I might accidentally get the heating mechanism at the bottom of the carafe wet. So I returned it.

I have been using this Tea Maker for a couple months. I read other reviews about what to watch out for as far as faults with this product. I have not had any discoloration on the bottom of the pot at all. Nor have I had trouble getting tea out of the infuser. Maybe it is because I knew of these issues and tried in advance to not have them. I only use RO water in this pot and I have left plain water in this pot for several days as I use it for hot water and there has been no rusting or discoloration on the bottom of the pot or the inside of the lid. Also I have made tea in this Tea Maker and I only use tea bags in the infuser and one time I left the infuser out of the pot and the tea bags dried inside the infuser. All I had to do was run warm water over the infuser and the tea bags came right out. I don't use loose tea leaves for ease of cleaning the infuser. Now as far as the tea this Tea Maker makes.....it is excellent. I love the different temps you can set it for whatever type of tea you are making. Boiling water for Cup of Noodles, hot cocoa or any other boiling water need is fast and easy. Brewing the different teas is great. Some think the process of pressing buttons is too much work. Well, brewing tea is different than coffee where you just set it and forget it. I didn't find this way of making tea any harder than the traditional way of brewing tea. Traditional: Boil water in a kettle, place tea in a tea pot. Pour hot water in the tea pot, cover and time the brewing. Serve. Hot Tea Maker: Add water to pot, choose temp and press button, hear beep add tea infuser, press button for auto brewing time or custom brewing time set, hear beep, remove infuser, press button to keep warm. It is no harder than Traditional tea making and you have the bonus of exact temperatures of the water you use. Really makes hot tea making or heating water easy. Plus you get nice recipes to try all kinds of new drinks.
I bought this about a month ago. I use it every day.

Wonderful For Loose Leaf Tea

First impressions are very favorable, it is cute, small, with lots of features. I especially like the custom steeping time option. The negatives are very short default steep times. Never would I use them, I would always use the custom steep time feature. Also I think black or stainless steel would be better than white for the appliance color, since tea stains things and drops of tea will most likely fall on the base plate.
First usage: I am very impressed how fast the water heats up to the proper temperature in this tea maker. It is just as fast, if not even faster than using the microwave. I am making 2 cups of tea, using two circular black-leaf teabags from Republic of Tea. The circular teabags do not lie flat in the tea infuser; therefore the water level for 2 cups does not fully immerse the teabags in the tea infuser. I used the black/herbal setting and the custom steep time feature, selecting 5 minutes for steeping time. The timer went off stating that the 5 minutes was up, however when checking it against my own kitchen timer, there was still 1 minute left. I double checked to make sure I pressed the button the appropriate number of times for the custom steep time feature; I did. There seems to be a time difference between the tea maker and a normal kitchen timer. I let the tea maker go another minute, to compensate for the shortage, before removing the tea infuser. I am very suspect of how violently the water boils through the tea bags in the infuser. I think it is too much agitation. My teabags, when I removed them from the infuser, had bits of tea leaves that came out of the bag. The tea pours nicely out of the kettle without dripping. The handle of the kettle is very comfortable and secure to grasp and hold while pouring the tea, and the tea is very hot. Upon tasting the tea, there is a dramatic difference in the depth of flavor between using this electric tea maker, and steeping tea the old-fashioned method. There is hardly any depth of flavor to the tea using this electric tea maker. It is also somewhat lighter in color than using the old-fashioned method, most likely due to the fact that during most of the steeping time, the bags are not fully immersed in the water. I'm sure this would be much better if you make 3 cups or more, however I rarely drink more than one cup at one sitting. Using this to make a 2 cup minimum is really a waste. I have a cup of tea in the morning and then a cup of tea in the afternoon. Even though you can use the keep warm feature, I would never let it sit that long until it was time for my afternoon tea. I am all about flavor and depth of flavor, and both would be compromised keeping it warm for 5 hours or more. After finishing my 1st cup of tea, I poured my 2nd cup from the tea maker. It is just as hot as my 1st cup was, the keep warm feature really works well.
Second usage: I am using loose leaf tea, and making 2 cups of tea in the teamaker. The looseleaf tea is totally submerged in the water. Again, I selected the custom steeping time. I chose 5 minutes and made sure to not press the buttons as quickly as I did before. I am again checking the time against my kitchen timer to see if it will be an actual 5 minutes this time. The tea maker gave the "done" Signal at 4-1/2 minutes. So still not the full 5 minutes that I programmed it for. While waiting for my tea to cool a bit so I could drink it, I cleaned out the tea infuser cylinder. It was not as difficult to clean the loose tea leaves out of the infuser as I thought it would be. Very impressed. However, the cylinder is so narrow and so deep that you cannot reach the bottom with anything to properly wash it. The tea tastes more hearty and flavorful than when I used the teabags before. I firmly believe it is due to the fact that the loose tea leaves were fully submerged in water at all times, where the teabags, using 2 cups of water, were partially out of the water for most of the time. I really enjoyed my cup of tea, it was the depth of flavor that I am used to when steeping the traditional method. There were no pieces of small tea leaves or sediment in my 1st cup of tea. The remaining tea in the kettle does have very minor pieces of sediment in the bottom. Overall, I am very impressed with the tea infuser. It's holes are so very tiny that it prevents a lot of sediment in the tea.
Third usage: I used 3 circular black leaf teabags from the Republic of Tea and 3 cups of water. The teabags are totally submerged in the water; however they are so cramped in the bottom of the tea infuser that there is not proper room for the tea leaves inside to expand. The flavor of the finished tea was not hearty and full-bodied. Again I used the custom steep time setting of 5 minutes; checking it against my kitchen timer. On this third usage of the tea maker, it did not beep to signal the end of the steeping time at all. It is a good thing I set my own timer. Like my other two previous uses, the tea is always very hot.
To sum up my review, it is a very nice appliance to use for loose tea leaves. It works beautifully with the minimum 2 cups water level. And the quality of the tea it produces is very full-bodied and enjoyable. If you are a teabag-only user, I think you will be quite disappointed. The tea infuser shape does not allow for proper expansion of the teabags; therefore you are not getting your full flavor experience.
