Good plasma, happy with purchase

I've had my 60 inch PM9700 for almost 2 months now. Overall, pretty happy with this tv.
First, the good.
1. Matte screen is very nice, keeps reflections down.
2. Picture quality is very good. Blacks could be better though.
3. Initially, quick onset image retention was noticeable, but after about 150 hours on the set, the only time I can notice any image retention is if I'm playing a color slide, and even then, it is extremely faint.
4. Even when off, the tv is nice to look at. The thin bezel is attractive.
5. Smart tv interface is convenient. This is my first smart tv and even though I haven't used any apps, I do like the ability to be able to browse the internet without a computer. Very easy to set up the wireless connection as well.
6. Power savings. I like that I don't have to use full power all the time, I can either use the sensor or manually set the amount of power savings.
7. 4 hdmi inputs. I don't have an AV receiver that has hdmi inputs, nor do I have an HDMI switcher, so being able to hookup all of my sources to the TV via hdmi is great.
Now, here are my dislikes.
1. Magic remote needs two more buttons - Menu and Input. It would be really nice to not have to wait for the app bar at the bottom to load before being able to get to the menu or input selection screen. I'd just like to be able to press a button and have the TV settings menu come up so I could adjust the picture settings or sound settings. Same with choosing an input. I'd like to to just press a button and have it cycle to the next input.
2. Dithering can be very bad in blacks. I don't know if this is the panel or the firmware. When viewing from the recommended distance, I can't notice it, but up close it can be pretty bad at times. Lowering the brightness setting can improve it, but then it seems to lower the amount of "shades of black" available.
3. I have my set wall mounted and the M8x1.25 pitch bolts wouldn't thread into the tv initially. After determining the bolt holes in the tv were not threaded well, I chased the threads with a tap to clean them up. After chasing the threads, it was fine.
I think LG has made good progress this year with the 9700 series. If they can improve the black levels even more and reduce the dithering along with adding a couple buttons to the magic remote, they would have an even better tv that could rival their competitors best sets.

Better than expected, criticize reviews

I have had this TV for a couple of months now. The first thing I noticed is the matte finish. I happen to really like the matte finish on the screen despite the statements on the reviews. The picture looks great and the settings are great for the novice and detailed enough for the expert.
The TV really showcases its capabilities with Blu-ray DVD's. I have not had the chance to test the 3-D capabilities with a 3-D compatible movie but the 3-D glasses are comfortable to wear. However, if you have light walls behind you when wearing the 3-D glasses, you will notice some reflection from the TV screen when watching a movie in the dark. This is certainly not a show-stopper for me though. I still think I made a good investment in buying this TV. It has great Smart-TV features and many others that I have yet to explore.
I would certainly recommend this TV even though some of the reviews down play its features in comparison with others of its class. I'm sure it is not the best TV out on the market but it certainly has great value and worthy-mention features. It also looks great aesthetically!
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, cool, modern

Excellent Dependable Product

Best purchase I ever made. Big bright screen full of HD details. Easy to use features. I don't need my glasses to see the subtitles. 3D is a fun feature and does make a difference when viewing. My family runs the TV almost 24x7, and it still works as great as the first day it came home. Thanks

I had some trepidation's concerning plasma t.v.'s and was hesitant to get one, but,I could not pass up the price that was being offered for the size compared to the L.C.D.'s that were 500-1000 dollars more-the picture was just as clear and good if not better than the L.C.D.'s-as of yet I have not had any regrets with my purchase.

Had so much promise.......

This television at most points is absolutely beautiful. The 3D looks good. The sound is impressive. But, there are a few let downs that are hard to overlook. First, the menu is not that hard to follow, but sometimes you have to go through 3 or 4 menus to get to the one you need. The menus should be a lot more simplified to make them faster and easier to navigate. Second, the apps that you can add to this "SmartTV" are not very impressive. The Amazon Instant Movies app is not even offered. Lastly, the most glaring problem with this TV is the picture with fast movement on screen. I bought this TV mostly for movies and sports. Its a plasma with 600Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, whenever the picture on the screen goes up or down I notice that it blurs tremendously and really takes away from the viewing experience. I would really not recommend this TV to anyone looking for that perfect fast refresh blur free TV.

Exceptional image quality and 3D.

It took me a while to decide on a plasma. I like the bang for your buck factor and the superb image quality. The price was much less than a comparable LED 3D and this was a major factor for me.
I've had this model for 4 days now. The image quality 2D/3D is very good. It is also feature rich and allows for much tweeking of the image. The instructions could be a bit more descriptive of the 3D settings. I am new to 3D and it took me two days to figure out how to adjust the 3D settings properly to get the image perfect. Once I did it was truly amazing just how good it does 3D. It's only been 4 days but I am more than satisfied with the purchase and can say it is the best HD TV I've owned. I've also tried my PS3 and X360 with 3D games and the results were exceptional.

Exceeded my expectations

I looked at the 60pm9700 mainly because it had a matte screen. My previous plasma tv had a lot of glare from an opposing window which was very distracting. My concern was that the matte screen would dim and soften the picture. Well I was worried for no reason! The picture is sharp, bright, blacks are great and the 3d is awesome. I did not care about 3d when purchasing the tv but have since enjoyed 3d movies like Shrek very much. The TruMotion feature is not advertised but has my wife totally hooked on this tv. She REQUIRES me to use it when watching movies. For the purist this tv handles 1080p 24 movies without a hitch. There was a report of TruMotion being stuck ON but LG fixed that with a firmware update so now that is a non issue.
