I assume the safe actually protects what is inside, but the quality of materials is cheap. Cheap plastic handle. Cheap plastic interior. Exterior metal is very thin--easy to drill through. Very difficult to attach to concrete floor. The top right corner was dented when received--I suspect it as a return that was resold. I had a Sentry safe before and liked it--but not this one. I would return it, but it is attached (half way--one side) and the cost would be prohibitive. I guess I'll live with it and complain--and hope no burglary occurs. If it should occur, I'm sure I will lose the safe and contents. .

We bought this model MSW3517 AS914148 in Texas several years ago (can't remember the exact year) and never had to test it in water or fire thank goodness. It has traveled with us overseas to Germany and back again 2011 -2015 and a cross country move from Texas to Kentucky in 2020, but sadly the door hinge rusted off in 2022 having never been immersed in water and always inside our climate controlled homes except in transit. We cannot repair it as the super thin metal shell is too thin for welding. the new model is too expensive for us to buy right now, so we opted for the fire proof/water proof document box version from Sentry Safe. Not sure why it rusted when it was never submerged in water that we know of.

I am extremely unhappy with this current product. The safe received, instructions for opening safe were clear. However, when inserting batteries, nothing. No lights, nothing. I called customer support, twice, and was on hold for over fifteen minutes without any contact other than message saying to continue to hold for next available representative. Top put in perspective, the Internal Revenue Service phone lines offer better support. So at present I have spent a significant amount of money for a paper weight.

I like the safe, it appears to satisfy our needs, we have since transferred items from our Safety Deposit Box to the safe. However, I do have two comments"
1. Instructions on page 6; Dual/Key electronic locks: Include a statement that the key locks/unlocks the combination only. Otherwise one thinks the key also opens
the safe which it alone doesn't. I had to call Customer Service for clarification.
2) The embossed padlock icons indicating key position for locked and unlocked is so faint that even shining a flashlight parallel with the safe to obtain a shadow is insufficient to determine which way is locked and unlocked.

Overall, this is an excellent safe with great storage and security features. I did not rate it 5 stars for 1 minor and a couple of important reasons. The minor issue is that it takes some getting used to the handle's operation and ensuring that the safe is actually locked. One of the important issues to me is that you can't delete the manufacturer's passcode. I do not like the idea of any code being anything other than what I want it to be. The second issue is that using the bolt-down kit invalidates the safe's waterproof rating. While I understand the issue, there should be some filler material, perhaps even simple rubber washers, that could provide some degree of water protection after installing the bolts.

Great safe option - the only negative is a 'spongy' handle that I had to get used to because I couldn't tell when the handle engaged the lock or not. Seems to me to be not so much a design flaw as a manufacturing flaw. Until I got used to how it moved, I wasn't entirely sure the safe was locked. I would give a qualified recommendation for this safe if you need fire/water proof storage of important items.
