An excellent product for Children and Collectors alike. It resembles, and acts like the droid we have all grown to love. The lights, sound effects, and color scheme are on key. It, or should I say he, requires a lot of room to perform the preprogrammed animations. This toy is also FAST, so any hard collisions with things in the room could disrupt his internal circuity causing possible malfunctions. BB-8 is definitely an indoor toy. If you were to use him outdoors, it will wear down the paint finish. With every great toy, there are going to be some drawbacks to discuss. For example, the charging port doors are hinged with by a plastic strap. I feel in time, the plastic will begin to wear and eventually break off. I would have thought to use metal pins for the hinges. This would have placed improved durability on the opening and closing of the port doors. I question the Head Sensors. During operation, I periodically see BB-8 bumping into things head on. The Wall Mount Charger gets "very" warm, and I would not leave it plugged unattended as indicated in the instruction manual. You will also noticed that with the Micro-USB, there isn't a power brick included. Therefore, you will need to plug into your computer's USB port, or use your cell phone's power brick. I feel for the price that Spin Master is charging, they should have taken the liberty of including this item. Last but not least, the rechargeable batteries. The only way to access these two batteries (NiMH & LiPO) is to dismantle the head and body, voiding your warranty. However, I expect the batteries to accept and hold a charge, longer than the manufacturer's warranty. In closing, I would like to see future toys where applications, aka Apps! , and remotes are no longer required. The toy interaction would solely be based on Voice Recognition. Words, and phrases would make the toy act out segments as seen in the movie. You would be able to tell the toy to go forward, backward, turn around etc. This has been done with R2D2.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So many, many years ago there was an Artoo-D2 that you could talk to and it would do an assortment of cool Star Wars themed actions. Except for being able to carry a beverage like the Artoo Unit could, the Star Wars Hero Droid BB-8 is an awesome toy. I was amazed how it moved so flawlessly on my carpet, and the kitchen floor. At times if I didn't know any better, I wouldn't even know that it was a toy. You can hold the remote and put the droid into follow mode and it will follow you around. You can give it commands and even talk to it. This is one of the most amazing toys that I have seen in a long time.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Assembly was easy. I am a little disappointed in the quality of the controller. It works ok but just feels cheap. The head and body must be charged separately. The body comes with a charger but the head only comes with a USB cord. You must use your phone charger or computer to charge. The head does not stay charged very long (or at least mine doesn't).
Using the controls takes some getting used to but once I got the hang of it everything was fine. YOU MUST HAVE A PRETTY LARGE AREA TO USE THE DROID. The voice commands are my favorite part. Seeing people's reaction when you set the controller down and say "Come Here" and the droid comes to you is priceless. Overall I give this 4 out of 5 stars simply because the fun factor more than makes up for the other issues.

It is big and heavy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Droid BB-8 is much bigger and heavier than I thought. The body is 11.75” in diameter and it’s 16” tall not including the antenna. It weights 11 lb which is like a bowling ball in basketball size (actually it is even bigger than basketball). The body and the head need to be charged separately. It comes with a charging power cord for the body and a USB charging cable (without adapter) for the head. The head attaches to the body via magnets. You need to put the head on the body and move it around along the body until you feel the magnets are connected together. There are 3 different modes - RC, Follow, and Off/Voice - you can play with the Droid.
In RC mode, you control the Droid like remote RC car. The joystick on the left of the remote controller controls forward and backward, while the right controls left and right. The Droid can roll pretty fast. The head tends to fall off it stops from full speed or when it hits on something. It falls off too when my daughter tried to give him hug and accidently pushed at his head.
In Follow mode, you carry the remote controller on you belt and the Droid follows you. It seems when I walk a little bit too fast, it can’t follow.
In Off/Voice mode, there is a list of commands in the user manual you can talk to the Droid. It moves its head, roll his body, and makes different sound on different commands. This is the funniest mode.
Overall speaker, it is cool to see Droid BB-8 running around. The only drawback is the head keeps on falling down but it is easy to put it back on.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a avid Star Wars fan!!this toy is amazing!! I can't believe how realistic it moves and acts. Now the bad while I think they bout alot of work into this toy I believe they skipped out on the remote. The remote seems cheap compared to the actual unit. And the follow me feature seems to be better for shorter people. The voice commands are fun but are few compared to other toys with this feature. While using the remote to control it his head falls off in a way this would be slightly aggravating to the "younger" Star Wars fan. But all in all this toy is awesome and has some great things going for it. The look and the actions are great! This is a great toy and I would definitely purchase one any day of the week!!!!!!!

Near life-sized version --over 16-inches tall, it responds to voice commands, follows you, interactive and functions as close to the movie version as possible. Insanely realistic

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Being a family of Star War fans, this droid has been a big hit for all of us. This product is just fun. The lights and sound effects are great. There is a remote controller that can move the droid, while it makes noises and speeds around. I love the Voice recognition which works great. If you say Follow Me., the little cutie finds you and moves with you. Just give it room . He moves fast with all of the sounds and movements of Star War droids. The toy is heavy and somewhat tricky to initially set up. You must charge the head and body, put batteries in the controller and then attach the head to the body. After the first time of setting it up, it is just fun and easy to re-charge and get going.
