Big hole needed

Be aware that the cables attached to the NHD-818 are difficult to feed into a brick wall. You would expect a compact RJ-45 connector, but no, Swann have made the cable from the camera with a large RJ-45 socket that requires you to drill a 25mm / 1 inch hole to feed the cables. Also there are two other cables attached and these are a power feed socket and a reset button. What are Swann thinking? If you have a problem and need to reset the camera to default, you need to remove the camera, draw out the cable and press the reset button.

Cannot be used externally - for internal use only

Score is for external use - we have 12 cameras in total on 2 systems, 10 cameras are internal these all work fine not had any problems. The NHD-818 external cameras fail after about 2 years on taking the camera apart the circuit boards are covered in rust and the inside was damp yet they are not in an exposed location. I replaced one camera about 12 months ago and this has failed again along now with the other camera. I have none ip, Swann cameras that have been outside now for 4 years not undercover without any issue I feel there is a design problem with these cameras when it comes to external use. (Devon is wet and damp but we are not in an exposed location)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Although IP66 is weatherproof, the outside of the camera is still subject to frost, ice, and dew when out in the open air. We recommend you install under some sheltered location where possible but if this is not suitable for your location simply aiming the camera to look a little downward can stop moisture from settling on the camera lens. Swann offers a one-year warranty provided a copy of your receipt or up to 36 months with valid registration on a Secure + Plan. Outside of this timeframe, we are unable to process a replacement free of charge. Your feedback is important to us.

Large hole needed for installation

Interesting how Swann do not show the cables from the cameras any of their pictures. This is because it is not just an RJ-45 connector. It's a large RJ-45 socket that needs a 25mm hole to be drilled. Also there is a reset button on one end of the cable and a power socket. So you have a cable from the camera with 3 ends from the main camera cable.

Tough outside installation

Actually, the camera quality is good, and weather sealed, but the 3 connectors is hard for outside installation: you must dill at least 1" hole to pass the cable to the outside, and need seal the bulk 3 connectors.

Excellent system - IP cameras are the future - Picture quality is very good day and night as is the Swann link app for the iPhone - stable too, have had no problems with this app - the iPad app however.... Would be really nice to see the cameras offered in a black colour option.
