I have dealt with Defender for 10+ years and they have always been great. I used them when you could call and speak with a person but they still answer email quickly.

decent setup and decent cameras

I like the setup and it wasn't hard to do. The only ting I can recommend in future products is having a option for motion detention of a certain viewing area. I have a camera that covers the backyard and everytime a leaf flicks on a branch it set off the motion detection. It would be nice if I had options to change my motion detection area.

Image quality great until the DVR fried - 3 years

Everything was great until I needed it. I went to get a look at the guy who was trying to open all the cars on our street and couldn't play back anything. Over an hour wasted to see that the HDD was not working at all. Got it to fire a couple of times to immediately fail again. Then I installed another HDD and found out the circuitry is the problem. Bye bye DVR.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Reviewing Defender 4 Channel Security System

Defender 4 Camera System
Reviewing the 4 cameras security system.
Everything arrived promptly at the home, all the components were well packed. The only installation information was brief, but enough to do the job of installing.
I haven't downloaded the manual yet, but will do so.
Improvements Needed
When I went to install the wires 3 of the spools were wrapped opposite to the one. I glanced at the one spool which I picked up first, this made sense to me, and all I had to do was unwrap the wire I needed. This made the job quicker and less wires all over the place.
I followed up with the other 3 spools in the similar manner, unwrapping only the wire I needed.

When I had all the wires and cameras in place I proceeded to hook up the wires at the console, this is when I found the three camera wires were reversed, and the power cord would not mate up. Needless to say I had to pull down all the work I had done and flip the wires around and re-install.
My suggestion is to have all the wires wrapped the same so no one will have the same problem I ended up with.
Another suggestion is to label the sheet you sent with the camera system, text in Male and Female by the connectors, this will make people aware that there is a difference in the connectors, which should help prevent any error.
The best suggestion I have is to have female connectors on both ends of the wire spool, and male connectors at the cameras, so no one will ever have a problem.

I purchased my DVR and cameras a couple of years ago, replaced the DVR earlier this year, and replaced one new camera this month (Sept). The system works very well. Darielle helped me each time to get the right units purchased and sent. Installation was very easy. I appreciate the prompt and knowledgeable service and shipments.

Darrielle from tech support helped with an issue with my old DVR the same day I posted for help. I ordered a replacement system and the Setup Wizard had me back on line in a matter of moments. Can't get any easier than this. I recommend this product and company to anyone looking to put up a security camera system.
