Easy setup but fair night vision

Was easy to setup. Lots of options but directions are not that good for using the setup tool. Night vision is not good when placing the camera from your 2nd story on a colonial. If you place the cameras on your 1st floor, it is excellent. Not sure how they will hold up to the cold winters in northern NJ.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good, but a few cons

Overall I like the system I bought and for the cost, its a great deal. And yes I would buy it again and or recommend it to a friend.
However something I wish were different or better.
Wish the unit had wifi. Having to run a Cat5 cable its a really pain and having the NIC be a wifi card would have been a simple fix. Almost everyone has wifi these day. The camera quality is not as good as I expected for a 1080P, however I was impressed with the night vision. The menu on the unit is not great and could really use some updating. I bought one of these units from my parents about 5 years ago and my brand new unit is exactly the same.

Very good system

We purchased the system from Home Depot originally and needed to purchase extension cables from defender-usa's website. The extension cables were not available through Home Depot. After wiring the system and powering it up, the HD video was good and the control interface were very easy to use and intuitive, meaning I didn't need to read the manual to learn how to use a feature.
Comparing the bullet vs dome cameras: The bullet cameras were easier to mount but were limited if you wanted to "angle" it to view something just outside its viewing range. It would also tilt the view in the monitor. This is where the dome camera would help. You can move the camera side to side and keep the orientation vertical. Mounting the dome camera was harder as you had to pry the base off which left a mark on it. A twist-off base would be much better.
We have yet to connect the base to the internet, but that'll be forthcoming. The base unit was easy to setup and use.
One of the few complaints I have are the physical BNC connections. When we ordered the 120' extension cables it came with a BNC barrel connector to "extend" the cable that came with the system. You could connect the 60' with the 120' cable with the BNC barrel connector or use the 120' cable by itself. To be blunt, the barrel connector is worthless! You cannot connect BNC to BNC as the holes are too small to accept pin of the connector! Another issue I have is that several (not all) of the BNC connectors behind the base unit were just a little too big too accept the BNC cable connector unless you have the strength of Superman! So I'm not sure if it's an issue with build quality or what. In any event, it was very hard to connect the BNC cable to the base. In addition, the spacing between BNC connectors is too close. You have to have petite little hands and the strength of Superman to make the connections.

Ease of playback is a lot better with this unit than the Svat that it replaced . Clarity is much better too. This product really worked for me !

This system is not as good as the older systems.

I replaced my older system which had the 600TVL cameras with this HD System. The picture quality is not as good. Also there is lag while viewing with this system. I guess that is because it goes over the cloud first and then to your phone. System is also slow while viewing over the same ip network. I even did the system upgrade. That did not help. This system is a disappointment when compared to the older DVR 8 Channel system with 600TVL cameras.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Daniela was great on the phone live viewing would not work due to a bad cable and she wouldn't give up until she found the problem great customer service

Good System

I have had an older Defender wireless system for years and have not had any issues with that so I upgrade to new HD system. Easy setup and have had the cameras and dvr installed for about a month and picture quality is very good. Droid App loses connectivity sometimes and I have to re log in.
I would recommend this to a friend!
