Beautiful Device

Easy installation. Easy to use. I love walking past it and seeing my local weather forecast on my way out the door. Looks very nice.

I just replaced about 2 months ago all my thermostats in the house and I am
very happy with the Nest thermostats plus I already see the savings in the electric bill went down ...I say around 15%

Just got the Nest two days ago and I absolutely love it!! Install was super easy!! Highly recommend to anyone who wants to upgrade their home. Love that I can control my thermostat with my smart phone anywhere.

Many Features and Many Shortcomings

MY Nest thermostat is feature-rich, but it is missing many niceties and is very short of documentation.Sensors-The time slots provided do not match my way of life and are not customizable.Documentation-Need info for home/away when two people can be away together or separately. Unclear if both need to be away or both need to be home.Documentation-Unclear how to hold a temperature beyond the next time period. Ordinarily I set the temp higher at bedtime because I am in an area of the house controlled by a different thermostat. When I have guests, I want to be able to hold the cooler temperature all night.Setting-I found no way to set AWAY from the thermostat when leaving the house. I am forced to use the app.I conditionally recommend the product, but must emphasize its capabilities and its shortcomings.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

With Home/Away Assist, all of your Nest products can automatically change their behavior as you come and go. There are two ways Home/Away Assist determines whether to automatically switch to Home or Away: where your phones are, and whether Nest products are currently noticing any activity in your home.
To tell if someone’s home, Home/Away Assist can use the location of any phones or tablets signed in to an app account that shares access to your home, as well as the activity sensors in some of your Nest products. You may want to change some of your Home/Away Assist settings to help it do a better job. You can choose whether or not your Google Nest thermostat will switch to Eco Temperatures when your home is set to Away. Tap the switch near the top of the menu to enable or disable this option.
The “How It Responds” section tells you what happens when your home is in each mode:
Home - On means your thermostat will use your regular schedule whenever anybody’s home.
Away - Eco Temperatures means your thermostat will switch itself to Eco Temperatures when no one’s home.

We've had a smart home for over a decade now. Previous attempts to implement smart thermostats were riddled with problems related to custom wiring, needing to connect to a central controller, limited remote access that involved port mapping, and lack of app support on multiple devices. After several friends recommended them, and I caught a sale, I decided to take the plunge. All problems solved.
I would recommend this to a friend!
